I want to know what is best for 450 hp and 4500 ft elevation. I am getting no responce from Kurt about the B1, and I will be getting a new turbo in three months. I am getting a bit frusterated trying to find the right turbo for my truck. Come on, let us in on the turbo info. I guess that they don't want to sell any. :(

CAnderson, Sorry for any delays... . I have a new computer now and am back in the shop catching up. Like Kat said My Email was screwing up for almost three weeks. For A while I didn't catch on. It would say that the Mail was sent but it wasn't. Plus I would not get a notice of failure. Even some of my in coming mail would just dissapear. I started to catch on when I logged on from a friends house and found unread mail two weeks old and then Kat and others started replying to my out going mail that was two weeks old!

Anyway I am 98% finished testing the B-1... It is working better then I expected on the low HP trucks. With it on my truck and the PE Comp turned off so I was only running the dd#3's (330hp)it spools fast even on the way home from NV at 8,000 -9,000 ft it worked great and smoke was not a problem. Then when you turn on the Comp WOW.

Keep in mind my Goals are

#1. Driveability/Response

#2. Lowering Egts

#3. Max Towable/Max Useable HP

#4. Less Smoke and Increased Mileage

This B-1 has met or exceeded all of my wishes. I am currently running it at 44psi and can run at or near WOT without exceeding 1250 Egts. This is at 425HP.

The Highest temp I have recorded from the Intake Charge Air at 44psi is 329 degF. This is 100 Deg's Less than the Hx40. The Shaft to Turbine wheel is larger then & My Turbo/Guru/Machinest says it will flow more Cfm then the H2E. I was concerned with the Mass increase of this Turbine wheel and Compressor wheel (They are very HD) that it would never spool fast enough especially after being spoiled by the KwikSpools "InstaBoost".

Since the B-1 can easily handle 60 psi it should work great for the 500-600+? Hp trucks.

Meanwhile I will be pulling a 30,000 lb Hay trailer up our mountain with my ETH and will see how much higher than 425hp I can use during Towing... . Anyone have a good deal on BullyDog 4's- 5's or some DD SM's... . :D I have a feeling that I will finally know the HP limit of my Clutch soon!

KWIKURT,

I've been reading for a while now and, correct me if I'm wrong. The kwikspool turbo is an HX40 with a HX35 drive side.

What is the B-1 exactly? I'd like to know how it works.

Thanks,

Mark

The KwikSpool Uses Hx40 wheels on the Compressor and Turbine side The only componet that is from a Hx35 is the Turbine housing that we machine to fit on the larger Turbine wheel.

As for what the B-1 is exactly... . It is a XXXXXXXTurbine wheel, A xxxxxxx Compressor wheel with a XXXXXX and a XXXXXX Housings. ;) Other than the performance expected that is all I am willing to give out.

If I buy one will ya tell me????

I've been waiting for my first serious BOMB. When I do, I'm changing Exhaust, injectors and Turbo... and then a fuel box/boost fooler;):D

DD3's or 4's, Mandrel Bent 4" ex, XXXX Turbo, Edge comp.

What HP do ya think it's good for???

Mark, LOL :D

With DD3's and the rest above you will have 425 HP and it depends on how towing you do and if you will stop there ;) (425hp)on which turbo would be the best choice for you.

guys i can give kurts b-1 two thumbs up. and since i'm the only one, with one other than kurt i guess i can coment. i have a bigger housing than kurt has and it still spools great. this big housing isn't going to be the ultimate in towing housings. but kurts smaller one will be. i had this turbo on when i made 717hp so as you can see it works great. just so everyone knows i paid full price for the b-1 so i'm just giving honest feedback to everyone.

This new HX-40 that Piers found is assume:D  . Spool up great!!! Boost starts at 1400 RPMs and it climbs fast. Twice today it smoked the tires as I tried to get use to it

The weather is is cold and snowy so I haven't even got past 3/4 throttle yet. So I can't tell how much effect it has had on EGTs. On the freeway cruising they are down 75-125 deg.

Piers great turbo here, it was good to talk to you today. Thanks much for the christmas card.

More to come later if it even stops snowing!!!!

Hey Dee,

I had a feeling when you were not on here last night that the turbo showed up yesterday.

I was telling a friend that you were prolly freezin your tail off installing the turbo.

Was the downpipe hard to get in?

Glad it spools up good. I talked to Piers about it today. Sounds like a good idea.

Don~

looks like you just past me up in HP. Time to play catch up for me:D

"Taps foot impatiently" :D

Do you think it will have the same performance levels on an auto equipped truck?? Or am I gonna be the crash test dummy???

Anyword on when mines built? I need to get the 4" downpipe to be here the day the turbo gets here.

Dumb question?

KwikKurt,

Is that new turbo of your Jet Hot coated? If so, do you like it and has it affected your EGT's?

Nice R&D work Kurt, thanks for your time :)

KAT, LOL... . You are really going to love this one. It is working out better than I could have expected. It spooled up fine with the big housing (even on my under powered truck). But I could not drive (turbo ) it over 36psi with my HP level (425). That along with the extremly low drive pressures 24 psi Exhaust manifold @ 36-38psi Intake manifold told me we had alot of room to Downsize the housing. The new one is perfect. With the Dual wastegate locked shut it developes 44-45 psi at 425HP. This tells me that the housing size is perfect for towing at this HP and with the wastegate just waiting for more Fuel/Propane? we can run this housing on much higher HP trucks. I want to test the smaller housing on CUMMNSTRKN's truck with the same Fueling settings to see how/if it will effect his Max HP #'s.

Even at 9000 ft elev and the comp off it spools fast. At my normal elevation of 6000 it is FUN and smoke levels are fine. You can still Blow a Cloud when you "Jump on It" with the Comp on #5 and my DD3's which is important to me because of my Stacks! But as soon as the B-1 spools the smoke is gone which also is a concern because I tow a 35ft Fifth wheel and already get tired of scrubbing the bugs off! With my Hx35 the smoke on the trailer was a problem. . Changed to the KS12cm2 and with the (old style)comp on 1 or 2 and I had almost no soot on the trailer at all. With the KS12cm2 and the comp on #5 during WOT the smoke would Gray out (It would stay black with the HX35) and with the B-1 it is Gone. I will be doing the final Towing test today and will post final results tonight.

Why make twin turbo's when KWIKKURT has made dual Wastegates. lol

KWIKKURT, Looks like you have a turbo I WANT!!

My final goal for my truck is 500RWHP, then I will go on to modifying the interior, exterior, etc.

I'll be talking to either HVAC with his twins, or You for your B-1 in the future.

Thanks for the major R&D Kurt.

Yes it does have a silencer ring. The more I drive it the more I luv it. I will be towing with it saturday.

Don, The hardest part of the install was getting the old(fairly new) down pipe off. And I wasn't freezing my a$$ off I was in my warm Auto shop here at School. I am hoping to get on the dyno sometime between the holidays...

piers still hasn't chimed in ???

looks like i'll have to sell the HX40 , kurt what size exhaust housing , or is that a secert too ?

does it come jet hot coated , or is that your on personal edition ?

and i'm with kat , has it been on an auto equipped truck ? i drove a kwikspool 12 and it was to aggressive for my tastes , actually scared me , but then again it wasn't my truck so i didn't want to have to buy the owner a new turbo ...

The HX40 I'm working with comes with a slightly different pinwheel than the HX40 we normally use.

From there I take it apart and modify the oil bushings to make it more stable & better lubrication.

It is also balanced to tighter spec's.

I then take the exhaust housing and do some censored work to it, so a 16 housing acts like a 14 in the bottom end, but still has the flow of the 16 with the full 4" outlet for the top end. I also do the same thing to an 18 housing so it reacts like a 16. John D. has one of these, Dee and Don are running the 16 housings. The whole setup, turbo, downpipe, clamp & gaskets sells for under a thousand dollars.

I was not going to reply to this thread until some of the people that have purchased one could come on with their thoughts and observations, but as this has turned into an ad for the B1 I thought I best say something  I'm not throwing rocks at Kurts B1, nor am I trying to compare an HX40 to the B1, from what I see Kurt is trying to put together a race turbo that will also behave around town & be good while towing. I wish him all the best trying to accomplish this with a single turbo.

Piers, I was having the same thoughts. I didn't like this thread getting focused on my turbo's. I want my own thread! :D ;) I answered Canderson post's because he like several others had felt like I haven't been responding to their Posts and Emails and since my turbos had been mentioned several times I didn't think it would hurt to update the interested parties. No harm was intended of course.

As you have said the Hx40 and B-1 are not in the same category especially pricewise. The B-1 would be better compared to a H2E.

I spoke with BlairP today and we hope to Compare them soon.

What I am trying to accomplish is a Turbo for Max Towing HP with EGT's under control(Coolest charge air possible & Low Drive Pressures), Reliabilty and keep Krisp Throttle response (KwikSpooling = Less Smoke especially with Built Automatics). It just has worked out that it might also be the answer for the Racers with its High Boost capabilities.

I personally love the performance that has been achieved with the Hx40's. I think there is still some performance / reliability improvements to be found.

Each Bomber has different needs to address: HP Now and In the future. Truck Use: How often they Tow and how much weight. Altitude, Automatic or Stick and California emissions Nazis ;) ETC,ETC,ETC. There will be a best choice for each to make based on many variables.

The thing about all of this R&D is it benefits all and I sure am having a good time, meeting lots of great people and learning something new every day.

Merry Xmas - Happy NewYear to All!! and please drive carefully this season and everyday. Kurt Yardley

Here is some more on Piers turbo... . It seems to make alot more power in the lower boost relm. It is alot stronger down in the 5-10 psi range than my old HX-35/16 was. And Piers does have it spooling up FAST. Actually too fast for the roads around here!!!
