The truck is a 2001 cummins nv5600 dually with 90000 miles. I have a nasty vibration under a heavy load when you lug it. Thick has a new clutch no change, sent off an oil sample from trans nothing alarming there.
So I pulled rear diff cover found some steel shavings and this on the carrier. Is this a bad pinion bearing or loose nut?
Thank you

I don't see anything unusual, if you're referring to the scrapes on the right, that has been there since 2002. Someone at assembly cleaned up the carrier housing so it would turn without interference.
What size are the metal shavings? If fine it,s probably normal. If large, could be carrier bearing cage? Check the center support bearing, it's the one on the drive shaft. Seems most people call it the carrier bearing? bg
