Hi all. I just noticed a pinion seal leak on the rear 70. Has anyone changed theirs? What does it involve? I know that some axles have crush sleaves in them and require a redo on the setup as far as lash and mesh. Is the Dana 70 hard to do? Thanks for any input.

Hey DB. i hope i don't get thrashed for being here 'cause i'm first gen. but i noticed your question and felt compelled to help. No, you don't need to worry about the setup being changed. just make sure you retorque it pinion nut to spec. use a NEW nut if you can get one. to make this job go quick and easy have a piece of 3/8" plate cut out to fit around the yoke and have a piece of pipe about 3 or 4 feet long welded to it to hold the yoke while you loosen and tighten the nut. and beg borrow or steal a torque wrench that has a LONG handle. and call a friend, you'll need em. hope this helps. have fun.

hdm48, thanks for the reply. I wouldn't thrash a 1st genner! With a REAL d60,np205 and some classic styling, I really respect the early trucks. I looked for a clean one for the longest time before I found a killer deal on the '98. By the way, I see you're in Snohomish. Way cool place. Lived there for quite a long time, just couldn't afford a house there. Oh, one more thing, does anyone know the torque specs on this thing? I've been cheesy with the shop manuals and now it's here to bite me. Thanks again.
