I think I found where I will be buying oil - truck stops.
I was at a truck stop close to my house over the weekend and out of curiosity I went over to look at the price of oil...
I saw Valvoline Premium Blue 15W-40 for less than $18 / gallon
That's really not that great of a deal. My local Napa will sell 6 gallons for $84 (14 each) so shop around and definitely watch for sales at the local parts stores and stock up. I've seen it as low as $11 a gallon on sale.
farm equipment places. tractor supply, Calranch, BigRed, like places all the time, i just got 6 gallons of the older VPB 15/40 for 10.99 at calranch on clearance. they also have a lot of the Delo and mystic 15/40 offering in the older CJ offerings.
I will buy on sale either at NAPA, Meijer (grocery store) or Farm and Fleet a tractor supply general merchandiser. I usually spend between $13 to $14 a gallon and can either buy Shell Or Valvoine 15W-40. Shop around I bet you can find it at a lower cost than a truck stop!
Walmart has a rollback on Mobil Delvac 1300 Super for 10.97. Until the end of the year, Mobil Delvac has a $7 a gallon rebate. Do the math. Walmart is not listed as a participant in the rebate. So, try to get a price match from Pep Boys, O'reilly, or Advance Auto who are listed for the rebate. Not all individual stores will match or at least not match the rollback price. Still, $12.97 minus $7 is a great price. Max of 5 rebates ($35). Haven't paid more than $8 a gallon for oil since owning my 2011. Only buy on sale and during a manufacturer's rebate period. Don't like playing the game? Hard to beat $29.99 for 3 gallons of Delo at Costco.
Walmart will put a lot of auto stores out of business if people dropped their aversion to shopping there. Bought two 5qt jugs of Pennzoil Full Synthetic oil for my gas vehicles last week for $22.97 minus a $10 rebate ($2 a qt rebate X 5). Thinking of starting an oil change business in my driveway, but the wife and HOA might have issues with that.
