I'm also confused as to why Gary just didn't send a PM to Steve requesting the removal of his membership. A simple "goodbye" would have been more appropriate. Surely he knew that this would create a fuss.

I was wondering this also. Creating a fuss is Gary's style though. He has even admitted to it in previous post. It is only appropriate for him that he leave in the same manner.

This thread has me wondering about others that have left and why someone would post leaving, publicly. I suppose its courtesy so at least others don't think something fatal has happened.

I think Gary's gotten exceedingly irritated with some of the younger guys on this forum - some folks can only see one viewpoint.

Now that seems like pure conjecture, so best not to go there, imho. Having said that, I personally think he got stuck in Tonopah. :-laf

Not just conjecture, I've seen he and others get pretty torn up in several threads. The comment about only seeing one viewpoint goes both ways. A few older guys on here have openly admitted that this is why they are either not renewing or don't post as much. I'm pretty sure Gary has made similar comments in the past.

While I didn't always necessarily agree with Gary I certainly think he was a good contributor to the forums. I especially enjoyed the "Walmart Camping Thread" which is one thread I didn't agree with him on.

I will however say I almost always read any thread I noticed that he had commented on for any of his input. I suspect the forums will miss his input on a number of ongoing threads as well.

I think TEXAS DIESEL has it right. He will most likely be back or he will be a ghost to this site. I think he just got tired of the same questions- same answers and someone having a different opinion than his. :{ we will all be a little poorer for his leaving. mabe someday he might wish to explain to all of us why he left as he was involved with with a few posts and leaving like this is well weird to say the least Finish what you start than leave but don't leave people hanging waiting for your input. Oh well cie la vie ( hope I spelled that correct)

Well reading through all the post about Gary and him leaving TDR I have to say he will be missed by some and then not by others. I personally think if your going to post about leaving at least tell us why? I have two viewpoints

mine and yours. I belive he had his good points and had some bad one's as do most of use on this board! I see to many great people leaving TDR for posting what they belive in and their viewpoints. I seen to many venders gone now for attacking them on their products. This has to stop somehow someway.

Well for me I hope all is well with Gary and family! I like a little fuss now and then :-laf :-laf

I haven't been on here all that long. I lurked in the shadows for a while before subscribing. This is what I have noticed in my OPINION. There is a "few" people that when they dis-agree, they have to make a personal attack on the other person. God forbid you just dis-agree! Gary seemed to get alot of that. there has been times when I thought about posting and decided that it just wasn't worth it. I'll probably get flamed for this. Oh well.

You're exactly right. There are a few on here that have a habit on making personal attacks on people when they disagree with them. Luckily, I've only had a run-in with one of them. You have to choose your battles carefully on here.

Gary knew alot of stuff and put out some very good information but Gary also rubbed quite a few the wrong way, in fact he even disappeared for a while before because he couldn't play well with others or as his side would be they couldn't play well with him. Everyone that goes takes something valuable with them, while I use to get annoyed with Gary sometimes, he made some very well informed posts and put out some awesome information, it's a shame to see an old retired guy with nothing better to do than give us information leave the site. :-laf Don't take offense, that was just a joke. Good Luck Gary some of these guys will miss you.
