OK, I just installed the da#n things and I lost about 4 lbs boost and I can feel the loss in my bu#. Throttle responce is gone too. I checked all my settings and everything is OK.

What's up with this????????????

I will be calling Piers in the morning. :{

1st, are you making smoke? 2nd did you advance timing? 3rd what did your egt's do? Should have gained at about 5#.

Were is your mark on the diapham? star wheel? pump setting?

OK, first, I did not turn anything down from the turned up possitions in the pump. The timing is advanced, the power is up 1 1/2 turns, the star wheel is in 1 turn, the pic is set for max pin travel, the diaphram stop is shaved . 090", the smoke screw is in 1/2 turn, and I don't know if it's just my luck or this pump [rebuilt by northland diesel in Marysville wash] is a piece of c#%p.

I'll wait to pass judgement until I talk to piers and see what he has to say. Maybe I need to go up there and have him look at it.

Well, there is a slight increase in smoke. not much. And I haven't been able to pull a long enough hill to see if the EGT's are up or not.

Sounds like pump.

I tried backing out power screw so far the truck would barely run, turned idle up to 775 and it would still reach 30# boost and 1450 deg on flat ground. Did you get the install kit with injectors? Possible installed wrong washers or left old ones in? Just asking as we all make mistakes sometimes. !!!!

Write down before stats and after so Piers has something to go by as he will ask this.

Good luck.

hdm48,

When my POD's went in I changed NOTHING just like you.

I went from the 180 HP BD injectors to the POD's.

I saw:

an immediate jump of about 4 psi empty

higher EGT's ( about 125*F over the 180's)

faster spool-up

more smoke across the board. (fixed it a bit with thinner washers)

very noticable SOP power/pull

I would just guess that you may have something else not right. I just got an emai from another fellow with a 1st Gen and he's grinnin like the Joker on Batman after putting in the POD's.

Something don't sound right thats for sure.

Don't give up on them yet. It's possible that your truck just don't like them, but I think thats low on the probability scale compared to other potential issues. Pump is certainly one.

Smoke alone should have changed noticably for starters, in my opinion.

Keep us up to date on progress.

I just did the install for the member BushWakr was referring to. The pump settings were initially left at the factory positions after the POD's went in with the addition of a 16cm exhaust housing.

Boost = 23 psi

EGT = 1050

It appears as though the thickness of the copper injector washer does influence smoke somewhat, and hence must have some effect on power. How much that influence on power is, well this is still unknown to me. But, poor fuel atomization and/or mixing in the cylinder will cause low power.

Upon installation of the POD injectors, I used 0. 030" thinner washers than were on the factory injectors. Smoke is pretty much non existent and we live at about 2400 ft elevation.

Regards,

Marc

POD's are great.

I am the guy Bushwakr & MDKram are referring to. MDKram did all the changes that my profile shows. All was original prior to this. MDKram did a great job. The ole beast just rocks now. Only smoke is on startup and when I put my foot into it. I will taking a trip across Canada all way to Newfoundland and will have my laptop with me so I shall keep u all posted as to how the changes pan out. Any questions just email me.
