Yesterday was a monumentous occasion... installed my POD's

. . finally, and yes, I fixed my Cowl Cracks with the factory

replacment parts..... sort of the Ironman of First Generation

maintainence and, an ungodly ammount of cursing.

The POD's, what can I say..... i think the words of my ex-chief

pilot, also French Canadian (and it should be Canadian French

but, we'll leave that topic to another post) summed it up best.

... "Holy Cripes". Careful, informed, and planned adjustments

to follow. Power screw at stock... (a drum roll for the numbers

please)... from a roll at 60MPH WFO... . Boost 25 headed to 30,

EGT stayed below 1000. Smoke, of the mosquito spraying

quantity but, to be adjusted soon.

Cowl Cracks. You should'nt be afraid of this little maintenance

task... yes I know ... but, it only just looks serious. I consider it

to be an easier job than putting in the POD's. Got the "fixer"

plates from Koller Dodge (www.Kollerdodge.com) on sale

($50. 00 or so and change, as I remember). After pulling the

fenders it looked really good. I've seen some photos of some

of the trucks that look awful... but, mine looked good... and now

they look even better smeared with goop and Frankenstien

looking repair plates (mental pictures of the Chrysler R&D crew

working late hours to come up with that one).

COST OF THE MAINTENANCE JOB $700. 00-800. 00... ... .

FEELING I GET AS I STOMP ON THE ACCELERATOR WITH A

DRY FOOT... . PRICELESS!!!!!!!

Please tell me more about the cowl crack problem. I guess this is the first that I have heard about it. What are the symptoms?

Thanks,

Dan

Probably the most apparent symptom is constant squeaking. I originally thought it was coming from my outside mirror where it mounted to the door.

By chance does anybody have the part number for these plates. I have a 92 and when I carry my camper the sqeek can really get annoying.

Thanks in advance.

My truck has 51k on it and the only noise that I hear sounds like the dash creaking as the truck body flexes such as going over a curb crooked. Could this be the cowl cracks or is it a diffent issue? I would prefer to fix it now if that is related.

Thanks for the heads up.

Dan

RamAZ,

Do a search for Cowl Cracks and I am sure you will find the part numbers. If memory serves me right GeneH did this repair and posted the part numbers.
