Would like to know the pro's and con's of both injectors before

I purchase any for my 92 CTD Truck. Any tips on installation would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks in Advanced. P. S. How is fuel economy effected going from stock injectors?

PODs give a lot of power, but tend to smoke a lot... too much for some.

I have no experience witht he PWs. They are probably more mild mannered.

I have the PW injectors. I personally love them. At idle, there is little, if any, smoke. Running at highway speeds, no smoke. If I romp on it under low boost conditions, I can belch a lot of smoke but it tend to clear up as soon as the boost comes up (very quick with the PDR HX-35/16). They are a BIG improbement over the stock injectors. I'm currently running ~200RWHP with mine and I still have done very little with the fuel screw. I know someone running PW's that dynod almost 270RWHP with an auto recently.

For me, they were the way to go at the time. With the recent screwing that Bosch has done to us on price, I'm not so sure I would go the same way.

Personally, I am waiting to find out how the EDM's that are being developed turn out. Then I will decide if I want DDIII's or EDM's.

If that's the case, go EDM. F1 Diesel (Don M) has some very nice injectors, he has some first gen injectors in r&d phase, should be out soon.

The DDIII's are a little too violent, I thought they were supposed to be more agressive than the PODs.

Just thought I'd post a note on this subject, we are testing some factory Bosch injectors to replace the PW or Bosch 185's, so far power output seems very close & smoke levels are down & most importantly the price is back inline... ... ..... that until some bigwig @ Bosch figures out which ones we are using and jacks the price up again. We'll be dynoing them next week, after the fuel mileage tests are complete.

Piers,

Glad to hear you are finding a way around the price gouge from Bosch.

Personally, I think I'd like the PWs, but now that they are $200 more than the PODs, I dont know. I was going to order a set of EDMs tomorrow, but with this news, I may wait another week or so.

I replaced my PW's with a set of DD3+ injectors but, they are now very spendy. I like the DD3+ injectors mostly because they can produce good power and still keep EGTs in line - when coupled with Old Smokys eccentric. I still hit 1400 degrees pre-turbo at Piers grand opening under load on their dyno so I know my new EGT guage is reading true. I can also lay down a good cloud of smoke when I put my foot into it.

At a recent BOMB party we took my eccentric out and installed it in another 1st Gen with PODs. On a test drive Lance (TLRMAN) said that his EGTs were down over 150 degrees - this with no other changes.

I feel the combination is more efficient hence the lower EGT's.

Carl, it was close enough to 270 that thats what I put in the signature. :D

I just bought a set of POD's and was going to put them in and then put the PW's in my Sons 92. After talking to Harry and NascarMark and having Mark tell me my transmission would probably fail with the PODs and where my pump is now set at, I decided my boy will get an early Christmas present. We are going to install them over the Thanksgiving weekend. His pump is pretty much stock so I'll be able to give a "seat-of -the-pants" report after that.

Ho, Ho, Ho

Hey paccool I have had my POD's in for over 30,000 miles with my auto and it now has 157,000miles on it and never has been rebuilt and I would not exactly say that I am easy on things either. Although now that I have bragged about my trans holding up I am positive that I will hit the key next time and it will fall out on the ground:rolleyes: . Maybe the pastor can jump in and throw some holy water over his shoulder for me to counteract the jinx. :p :D :p

Dfeland,

I am just now getting into the respectable HP range and I'm already on the third transmission in 180,000 miles. This one is not really stock as there were a few mods done the last time I had it rebuilt but I don't feel like spending another $2200 right now on a transmission. Besides, this is a good way to get the boy hooked on bombing and get his truck boosted a little.

Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT treating the transmission gently. I really love that kick in the a** feel when taking off as well as the turbo whine.

Stan:) :D :)

Oh SURE, court dissaster and call in the Pastor... .

Oh Yes your eminence, I'm going to be bad so can you absolve me in advance..... :p ;)

Now, look at Greenleaf... he's been good this year and he was awarded 240 RWHP for his effort... . ;):D

At this point the pastor would don his hooded cloak, grab the chain held, upturned piston smoking inscence and, wander off into the wasteland. . .....

The Pastor... speaking to you from:

The Temple of the Eternal Thermal Radiance... ;)

Msilva,

EDM stands for Electronic Discharge Machining. More info and details here- www.f1diesel.com They take a blank tipthat is an alloy, and cut holes into it, at angles best suited for the engine design and power desired. Normally have more holes than stock Bosch, really smooth spray. Supposed to cut smoke and EGTs; increase MPGs (when driven conservatively, of course). I'm looking at them, as PWs give a minimal increase over my stock 4 holers, and PODs smoke more than I'd like. They are a little pricey, but may be worth it. Wildcat Diesel and Rip Rook both sell them, with Rip quoting me a better price. Not sure of availability- Rod at Wildcat told me a month ago they were having problems finding bodies for the First Genners. I have emailed another guy advertising in the Product Promotions section, but have yet to receive an answer since yesterday, when I sent it.

I ordered the PODs, today. Oo. I like the smoke anyway, and the Power Wagons are overpriced. Does anyone have any advise or tips on installation?

The general consensus seems to be, to use . 020 thick copper sealing washers under the injectors. This seems to place the injectors at the best distance from the pistons and helps to control smoke. Backing off the smoke screw and raising the star wheel helps too. I have been running the POD's for almost 60000 miles now. Great power, and I don't care if it tints the windows of offending Ricers in the right lane!
