HOLY COW!!!! I'm going to call that numbe rthis evening and see if it is still for sale.

The engine will go for that, but the axles, t-case, and Getrag are worth that again.

man you guys sound like a flip that house show. . its a good price but I've seen cheaper and I 've gotten whole engines a lot cheaper . . :-{} rememeber it is older and has unknown problems with it. . etc etc. . theres no way i'd pay $3000 for that truck. etcetc

If the engine runs smooth and accelerates (or gains rpm in neutral) without sputtering, no smoke or leaks, it's worth $1500.

Getrag- if it's in good shape, no more than small oil seepage, shifts smooth, $500.

Rear axle- same qualifications- $5-700. Subtract $50 for 4. 10 ratio

Front axle- same as rear.

Cab doesnt look to be worth saving.

Good bucket seats are worth $50-100 each if good (doubtful in this case, but possible).

I'm not saying I havent gotten better deals, or that the whole truck is worth $3000 as it sits. I'm also not implying you could get the money inside of a week, but it is doable if one is patient. As P. T. Barnum used to say, "there's one born every minute. " You should see good Getrags on ebay- $450-600 is average. Junkyard D70s go for $1000+. Just because it is from a Cummins Dodge.

The ad said $1500 when I clicked on it, but I called and its sold. Its tough to find a 5 sp 4x4 parts truck, advertised at least. My experience is the best deals are the trucks you find sitting on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it, not the ones you find on ebay, etc.

I'll second that most of the good deals are in people yards or word of mouth etc. . 90% of my good price buys have been that way.

Hey, hey, now. Deo, I didnt say I wanted to PAY those prices, just that they could be received. ;) Remember, I got *2* CTDs for $2000, both somewhat drivable (they were much better after front end rebuilds).

Thats more my speed. . your other posts sounded like you wanted the prices to go up out there etc. . I'm all for keeping them LOW. . Thats why I hate House Flippers haha

I just wanted the engine, but would rather have a late model 12V with a P7100 anyway. Plan is to replace a 318 in Dad's D600 grain truck. I figure a P-Pumped 12V with a NV4500 behind it will go into that truck pretty simply.

$2K for both? Thats the problem now is that the trucks are getting really old and will nickel and dime you when you first get them. I know whenever I get a "new" first gen there's always at least a couple hundred to put in it right away, draglinks, wiring fixes, hinge pin bushings, fluid/filter changes, etc. When I got my first firstgen 8 years ago they were old and you barely saw them on the road. Now...

Shoot! You guys are paying waayyy too much! I bought an '89 for $250. I had to put about $750 into it, rear main seal, trans lines, brakes, and I had to clean the algae out of the fuel tank. But I sold it for $2500, a tidy little profit! :-laf

The same guy has another one sitting there now. I wish it was an ex-cab, but I might check on it anyway. ;)

Up for sale again

I like how it's up for sale again, someone snagged it up real quick and is now selling it for what it's worth... well for the most part. Auto & RV Publications - New & Used Vehicles for sale

Am I the only one that thinks it is stoopid to advertise the same truck in the same photo ad magazine, 2 weeks later, for twice as much???

That dealer is optimistic, but there's one born every minute, as they say. Some slick salesman can spray under the hood (no detailing- just clean the grime and big chunks), and tell the average Joe that the engine is worth $5 grand alone, you're getting a heck of a deal. Once upon a time, it was worth that, but no more. The body looks to be falling apart, and it only has 4 wheels  Put a bed on it, and if the drivetrain were in excellent shape, it may be worth what he's asking.

So true. Something like this is kind of a gamble because you can't drive it. The diffs, Tcase and trans could all need work.
