[I posted this in reply to a thread on the 2nd Gen Forum, but it's such a cool answer to the "dreaded drone" problem that I thought it was worth posting here, too. ]

Just had to post this picture this after checking it out on the web (http://www.epiflex.com). This "Epiflex" has been designed to strictly address this "4th order engine vibration" (gotta love that term!). According to Rich there at EPI, Bully Dog has been talking to him about incorporating this thing in their downpipes. Must be something to this concept.

Co-pilot's been complaining about the drone-resonance for some time; I've been hanging tough, pretending it doesn't matter to me, but the noise at cruise and climb is starting to work my last nerve, too. I think I'm gonna try this.

I've been thinking about going to NAPA and getting a short piece of stainless flex pipe to replace a piece of the down pipe to kill the drone. Of course, I haven't got aroundtoit. Right now I just turn off my hearing aid. Helps kill the drone and the complaints about it too. #ad

Joe,

I was going the flex-pipe route until I discovered this. The flex pipe seems like it could be vulnerable to road rash punctures. Now, if you put it in the down pipe, it would be safe, but I understand that the most effective placement is in the first straight section after the down pipe--right in the path of hostile garbage.

Do you have any idea how much they want for it? Looks kind of expensive. Just might be able to get several ordinary flex pipes for the price they want. I kind of doubt that the danger of banging a hole in the flex pipe is very high. My son always points to the down portion of the pipe if I ask him where the noise is coming from (my wife talks about it for a while and I forget what the subject was). Nice looking product.

This product came up in a thread a while back. I called the company because I thought it was a great idea. Here is what I found out. The make a "kit" for the Powersmokes. The don't/didn't have an off the shelf 4" but they said it would be no big deal to make one up. The price was the scary part. I don't remember the cost exactly, but I know for sure it was well over $100, I think ~$150. Cost alone is enough to scare me away. A $10 piece of flex pipe is OK with even if I do have to replace it every year (which I don't think will be an issue. I believe it will hold up quite well except in 4wheeling situations. )
