Went to the dealer to have them look at my injectors and possible knock sound and run the scan tool on things. here's what I got.

The test was "cylinder balence test"

Injector #1 93%

Injectoir #3 97%

The rest of the injectors were at 103-105%.

Well, I'm worried about 1 and 3, are these numbers low? are they with in "acceptable" what's the deal with the injectors that are over 100%? assuming that are compasating for the decrease with 1 and 3.

Also, with the ODB box we ran a rail pressure test, kick her up to 20,000 PSI, idle went up to 1220 instantly. . That's cool. So at idle, it's 7000psi, with X an X for timing and duraction, then just add 13,000 more linepressure is enought to idle at 1,220 :). This looked good

And for cylinder kill test, things were normal for that. no codes or issues.

So I'm assuming the extra "noise" I head is the 2 injectors not at 100%.

What should I do next? I was told the mechanic (who is bad *** BTW) was going to call the DC and ask them about thoses numbers. Anyone have any numbers I can call that I can be proactive about and look into these things my self?

BTW, as a note, The edge juice with attitude was conneted, but in the stock setting when we did all tests.

I`ve never seen a cylinder balance test that was very accurate Try swapping injectors in the holes or a thermometer & see if the pattern follows the injector.

was going to call the DC and ask them about thoses numbers.

i do remember reading here that DC says anything over 85% or 87% is an acceptable injector. that could just be one star rep saying that, but who knows... ?

Not trying to hijack but I wanted to ask, 7000 lbs at idle is that correct and is that the normal idle pressure on a 04. 5??? The reason I ask is I had put a spa gauge in that reads rail and everyone else that I know that has one of these gauges has an 03 and theres reads about 5000 @ idle, my 04. 5 reads 6800 to 7000 and I was wanting to know if that's normal.

The diesel diagnostic TSB 14-003-05 specifically states to not perform cylinder balance test as it is not accurate.

I'm tapped in before the EZ but at idle it doesn't matter, I ve unhooked the EZ and idle pressure is the same.

I agree with Sag2. The balance test is not really accurate. The balance test readings you have given, I wouldn't rule out the #5 injector being bad. Since it is between them in the firing order. 153624 is the firing order. I have found this to be the case a couple of times on different trucks at work. Anytime I have 2 cylinders that don't seem to be up to par, I look if there is only one in between them in the firing order. Thats the one I check first. The injector kill test is probably the easist and best way to find the problem child. Listen closely for the knock to disappear when killing each of the injectors. Also notice the sound and feel of the engine while sitting behind the seat. You can do this at idle and while driving down the road if need be. Once you think you have found the culprit, pull the injector and connector tube for that cylinder and look at the tip of the fuel connector tube and see if it is dark and discolored. This will also point to a bad injector. It is usually evidence of combustion gases comming back through the tip of the injector. You might also remove the tip from the injector and check to see if the pintle moves freely in the nozzle and is not gummed up. This will cause a fuel knock. I have had success cleaning the pintle and nozzles with carb cleaner on sticky pintles and reassembled them an the fuel knock went away. I have done this on trucks out of warranty for guys who dont want to spend a ton of money for an injector. I hope the Edge didn't screw with the event data in the ECM, such as the total run time, total trip time, total amount of fuel used and so on. STAR will try to void your warranty and will do so if these numbers dont jive. Some of the downloaders will wipe this info out and they will not want to up any parts for the truck. Basically all of the parts of the engine are on restricton so they have to ok the parts be replaced before you can get one. It can be a real PITA sometimes because they will want you to do a whole lot of BS tests before they are satisfied. Good luck.
