If your going to invent a new diesel combo, try one that has already been done. Dodge, as an option, put the Perkins in their 300s in the 60s. Very few left today. Too bad it didn't catch on as a 354 Perkins under the hood would be a reliable engine. Someome would find a way to get it into a first gen easily. A second or third gen would take a little thinking.
Once a 354 got shoehorned in, someone would be hot on their heels with the 540 Perkins V8 diesel...
