Does anyone have any idea why my power door locks will work unlocking my doors, but not locking? Both swithes are dead on the locking (down) side. Fuse is good. Any relays to check? Thanks for any help.

Greg

The locks operate with reversible electric motors attached to the latch mechanism. A failure in one will cause the other to fail as well. You'll have to disconnect them one at a time and see if the other becomes operative.

I have this same problem except it is reverse, if that makes sense. I am able to lock the doors but not unlock them. This is from the drivers side. The window controls work fine on the drivers side for both windows. The passenger side control does not work for the lock or the window. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

no answer, but sotra same problem...

since we are on this topic i can lock from the passenger side, but not unlock. drivers side operates normal and windows are fine. i am thinkg about a dirty or bad switch in this cae.

Diffrent yet...but no answer

I have a '94 and the drivers side has no response at all but the passenger side will responde to "lock/unlock" switch.

This looks like a subject to be talked about.

Anyone out there have some suggestions / answers.

To be honest I havent even taken the panel off to look.

Symptoms...

Began to NOT lock every now and then...

Bagan to lock ONLY now and then...

Quit working all together...

HELP US... ... ... ... .

I have a 98 and the lock switch works all the time on the passanger side but half time on drivers side. I called the local Dodge dealer and they stock the switch for the drivers side. He said they sell a lot of those switches. I purchased one but have not put it in yet.

Try working some contact cleaner into the switch. My passenger side was acting up about 2 years ago..... Been fine ever since.

I had a similar problem like the original post had. Had it fixed under warranty. Dealer said it was a connection that needed to be pushed back together.

Passenger power window would also go down but not up. I could get the window back up by working the switch and squeezing around on the black accordian boot at the door hinge. Apparently, the connection was inside the boot.

Zues,

How do you change the switch?

Mine is acting up. I'm going to try contact cleaner (per PUMPERDUDE) first, but I may need to change the switch.

Does it just pull out, or do you have to remove the door panel?

Loren

Been there still doing that..........

Loren ------ it is recommended to remove the plastic handle tray in the door and push the spring clip in on the back of the switch, you can pull the switch out by pulling up on one end of it (but this could damage the area where the clips hold at and leave slack in your switch when you replace it.

I have went through 3 driver switches and 2 passenger switches. At around 50 bucks a pop that gets pretty old. I took one apart last night and they have contacts inside that have a type of spring hinge which holds the contact open until you push the switch. It is possible these contacts are dirty and only need cleaning. Will clean one and try to see it will work again.

Todd

Loren,

Which side is it? The spring clip on the drivers side is towards the front to the switch and the spring clip on the passanger side is towards the back of the switch.

you need to push the spring clip and pull up on the switch.

e mail me if you have any other questions.

On '94-'07 trucks the window and door lock switches are all the same. If you have a bad one, try swapping it with another and see if it works differently. As these trucks age, you will see this come up again and again.

The window switches can cause an intermittant failure. It could be either switch but neither will work. Intermittant electrical issues are fun to diagnose too.
