PM Fred Swanson. He has them and tell him I sent you.

BTW... JKloppe has one if you want to PM him and ask him what he thinks.

If your gonna get a comp, spend the extra and get the drag comp. I don't think it really "adds" anything over the normal comp. The comp stops adding fuel around 2700 I believe, the drag comp continues adding all he way to 3200 I believe. Not positive about the RPM's, I'm sure somebody else will know them though.

Advanced Diesel Technologies, www.smokindiesel.com, has them. That's where I got mine. Good guys to work with.

Ted

From my understanding Ted is just about right on the money-the standard COMP starts to defuel at 2700 while the DragCOMP runs right up to 3200..... but only on level 5, sublevel 5. Any other level-it works just like a standard one. This came to me from Aaron at Edge. I do have the DragCOMP-when I get a clutch that will actually hold level 5x5, an air system that flows a shade more air than the stocker, and my brass cojones, I'll give you my opinion! :D

ALL you need is a B1 and a SBC ConFE!!! :D:D:D

It's been a really good combination.

Actually I have an OFE sitting here-I'm going to probe the limits of its capabilities! :D B1 is just too rich for my blood-I have talked to Kurt a couple times on the phone (never about turbos though) and he is a great guy... . but I just can't justify dropping that kind of cash! I'm still sitting on the fence waiting for Piers' VGT HX40-to me that is the ultimate setup and I will be more than willing to pony up for it. I'm still volunteering to be a paying beta tester-Piers are you listening? :D

Twins may still be in my future too-time will tell.....

Reprogram the Comp?

Does anyone know if Edge can reprogram a comp box to have the hot [drag] setting on level 5/5? In other words, can I get my comp reprogramed to be a drag comp box? Or does it require hardware changes inside the box?

It would be pretty cool if Edge could set up a stand at Muncie, and we could hand our Comp box over, get it reprogramed, and then go make another 1/4 mile run or dyno run and see the difference!! :) :D :D

Or: do I have to go sell my Comp and upgrade to a Drag Comp?

Thanks, Greg L

Lsfarm,

When I upgraded my PE Box to the Hot #3 all I had to do is give'em my credit card # and they sent a new box and when the new box arrived I send the old one back. It's been a while but I'm pretty sure my upgrade cost 50. 00 bucks. They’re a top-notch outfit with one of the best customer service I’ve ever seen.

I think (I could be wrong though) that the programming is on a removable PROM? That's the impression I got from talking to Keith at DD-but I never really asked him directly come to think of it. I wanna lay hands on the DragUFM programming and do a couple dyno pulls back-to-back with the different programming, then leave the UFM calibrations in for a while for driveability comparisons.

Edge would be the fellas to talk to alright-I should give them a call I guess to find out for sure myself!

Jason

The Hot Comp or Drag UFM chip is a removeable chip. Yes, level 5,5 is hotter than stock, and it fuels harder off idle and does fuel past 3000 RPM.

You can purchase just the upgrade for your current Comp box. Either version will work in either box.

Guys,

Alright now we know that the drag/hot comp box will fuel to >3,000 R. P. M. 's... ... ... ... . With this capability what other mods do we need to/should make to our trucks to handle it?

Do we need to/should we change valve springs?

Do we need to/should we make our lift pumps pushers along with banjo fittings to ensure enough fuel?

I am all for more ponies... ... ... . just want to be prepared when I call on all of them to smoke some duracrapper or powerjoker that I don't end up on a hook because I didn't do something.

What do you think?

Eric

I have the drag comp and there are no other mods necc.

I am putting in new fuel fittings but it is not necc w/DD3s and a PEDC.

I'm going to much bigger injectors, cam, and who knows what else.

Right now I have no fuel supply/pressure problems.

A new cam?......

Hey Mark,

You found someone who will sell you a cam over the counter?

Who???????

Specs?

Tell me more... ... ...

Eric

DD can reprogram your Edge Comp, at elast that was the impression I got when I talked to Keith about this several months ago.

Eric,

About that cam, did you ever call Enterprise Engine?

Andrew

Eric,

It's from ATS. I'll be the first stock block guy to try the new cam. Pretty routy!!

It's a slow process gettting them ground and back. Between them, metraveling and may madness it'l be 2 weeks before I finish.

The silver bullet looks like it hit a wall. . the whole front end is off for getting to the cam. Real PITA. It's about a day's worth of beer drinkin and work;) :D .

l8r,

Mark

There are several vendors making cams... . Check around, DD isn't the only game in town when it comes to cams. DD does make quality parts but this doesn't mean other vendors don't.

Doug

Be sure when asking about cams that they quantify the changes from stock and explain what effect they feel it has on performance.

There are a lot of cam vendors that claim better mileage, spool-up, etc but won't tell you what they have changed or how much.

When I buy a cam from anyone for anything I get the specs for the cam(s) and the specs for stock then I sit down and drink a beer and do some studying.

you have to decide how much duration, lift, and lobe separation you want based on the manufacturer/vendors clams on how much each factor effects performance.

Can you get the perfomance you want w/o cutting pistons and/or custom valve train components? Is the performance increase worth the effort and cost?

Cam installation is at a minimum 4-5 hrs for trained personnel. Are you sure you can pull it off? Can you afford to have it installed? Will they let you install it? Will they give you the spec's on your cam?

Every camshaft should come with a cam card. It is necessary incase you ever need someone else to do work on your vehicle.

If you go to vendor A to ge the cam, then later you go to vendor B for head work and turbos. Vendor B will need to know if that cam is going to affect the work he plans to do.

Don't let anyone tell YOU that you don't need to know about the internal parts that YOU bought for YOUR engine. An informed owner is the best customer and anyone who doesn't trust you enough to tell you about your purchase should be avoided.

IMHO,

Mark

EShaw, you asked what else is needed to run the Hot Comp. If your truck is close to stock, and you're running the HY-35, this box is too much.

If you plan on upgrading turbos, fine. Plus, do you have a fuel pressure gauge, and some sort of fuel pump upgrade? This is highly recommended.

This program is not for a stock truck, but intended for one that is built to handle the fueling.
