So what if there is an abundant amount of electrical noise? What is the fix if that's the case?

Thanks for takign the time Paul. I have no clue what the interconnects are here. :-laf

Dave

It can be caused by a couple of things in the alt. Leaky diodes, and poor brush contact are a couple of the most common. All alternators put out a certain amount of noise. It produces a 3 phase, rectified current flow. Disconnecting it will flat line the voltage. Rather then trying to check everything in the alternator it's easier to disconnect it, and if the problem goes away, then spend the time to fix the alternator, or at least check into the "noise" more completely. Poor grounds can also cause noise when the alternator is charging.

Paul

What effect can the electrical noise have? Could it cause a power issue like I am getting? Or is it just another thing to "clean up" in order to rule out any other potential issues?

I think Paul is trying to let you know that electrical noise can and will have an effect on electrinonic devices IE you TST box or the associated wiring.

I had a thought last night, not sure if you checked this yet. But is there anyway your fuel injector connecting tubes are leaking? I am thinking that you could be losing fuel to the return line and never know it.

I actually had posed that question to Don M. We talked about it and after pulling the crossover tubes, we don't believe that is the issue. There is no signs of leakage. But, anythingg is possible at this point!!

Dave

Sorry about not being clearer. Jim is correct, what I was trying to suggest is that the noise could effect a wire tap box, as well as other devices.

Sorry about your LOSS Dave,
My guess is an electronic gremlin would be the worst frustration. I am still fighting my "pulls to the left" problem. So far I have done Ball joints-helped the wobble but not the pull, thorens bar, all new T-style rods, s-stabilizer, centamatics, new caster cams. All thats left to buy and install is a borgeson shaft, psc box and a DSS. Oh TOYOS might make the biggest diffrence. Sorry to post this off topic but just wanted to share my pain with yours. Good luck man-try and keep your self surrounded by friends and family for support, in case a powerstroke outruns ya!

Hasn't happened yet, but I think they are getting closer!

I tend to believe it's electronic myself. But the process of ruling things in or out is frustrating.

I'll keep working at it.

I've been told there is a by pass in the VP for excessive fuel pressure. I was also told that continually having excessive pressure will cause the bypass in the VP to stick open.

Secondly, with the catcher/redline or the catcher/comp comb due you think you could be getting to much additional timing?

dave did you ever find the culprit sorta interesting symptoms just curious what the cause was

Not yet. I haven't touched the truck as I have been working on my new house. Seems to tow 3 tons okay. :)

If you had a VP torn down you would be able to clearly see the fuel flow. Excessive or low pressures on the VP is not my issue.

I run a non timing TST with the Smarty.

I have also tried other various combinations of timinimg/ fueling boxes, edge boxes alone, fueling boxes alone, ect. The best power comes from my current setup.

have you picked marco's brain on this? ? ? I am really interested seems like everything that makes it tick has been replaced/swapped with no results. At lest its still drivable just limp.

Im no transmission expert but with the power dieing into a flatline almost seems like a slipping problem TC or Clutch cant remember what ETC you have. I would call and Pick Bill K's @DTT/ Peter's at SBC brain-might find some clarity.

I have tried asking questions of marco, but I get no response.

Bill at DTT has had some suggestions, but nothing has panned out yet. I made the exact same power before and after a trans refresh.

Almost acts like a limp mode. Really odd.
