Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) power seat motors

is there a common reason for them to fail. i have a power drivers seat. it will move forward and backwards. it will not move up and down. were should i start to look. if it is a bad motor where is a good place to get a new one? thanks for the help.

yeah same here my up down one went out a few months back i know there is power to it so i know its the motor. hitting it with a hammer worked for a while :-laf but i would say maybe a junk yard ?

Seat fix

Only 4 bolts hold the bottom seat cushion to the seat frame.

3 motors and alot of horse and dog hair to clean! Check all connections, as it could be the control actuator on the side of the seat.

Mine turned out to be a weld braised on one of the lift cams.



The motor turned but seat did not.



I also added carpet between the wire springs and foam at this time.

The "TDR Seat Bomb"!

One of mine stopped. I trouble shot it and found out what it was, just haven't done the fix I want to do to it yet.

What I found is common as well as there is a TSB about the seat getting stuck in a certain postion and stalling the motor.



There is also a gimic automatic ckt breaker built into them.

They go bad,,, IE trip too early.

There's a access hole in the plastic end of the motor.

If you put the likes of a paper clip in there and short it out, and the motor works, you can take the motor out, short it out, but add a fuse or DC ckt breaker in series with it, about 10amps or so.



You can't buy the motors from DC, tried that.

The only other choice I see is getting a lower half of a seat from the junkies would be a good thing

good luck trying to find a lower 1/2. I have the same problem and IF you can find someone who has the power seat they want to sell the whole seat. You can buy the entire drive assembly to the tune of about $100 +. I'm still fishing and haven't found the time to take the seat apart.
