Power steering fluid out cap

Searched but couldn't find any info on this, checked to make sure it wasn't the oring between reservoir and pump.



I have fluid leaking out the cap, I see an oring on the cap and am planning on replacing it but was wondering if ther is a brather somewhere that could be plugged? Wouldn't think there should be a lot of pressure in the reservoir.

Any info would be great,

Had the same problem on mine when under warranty so I took it to dealer. I was told that the fluid level was a little to high and that I should run it around the add mark or at least below the full line. That was six years ago and so far no problem.

Most common I see is is fluid level too high, no room for expansion with heat and or turning the wheels with the engine off, like on a hoist if your doing service work.

Thanks, I'll pull a little out and see if it helps, I filled it to the full cold mark last week after draining all the old fluid. I'll have to check it when it's hot to make sure it's not too full.

I've got an '03 also and I have actually heard mine pop as I was removing it as if it had some pretty good pressure behind it. I was also seeing fluid leaking from around the cap. I am assuming that it was a little too full even though it was less than the full mark because after a few weeks of wiping it off every few days it finally stopped.

Look in the second generation posts. There were a number of trucks that the brake booster accumulator would rupture and force the nitrogen into the system. The evidence was the pool of fluid under the truck. Turn your truck off and see if you still have brake boost for a couple of pushes on the brake pedal. If not, get your piggy bank out.
