Hello,

I’m having two issues while installing a new power steering pump. This is in regards to the 2005 truck in my signature.

I install the Mopar 6-bolt steering gear box (68170214AB) in 2021. Today I was trying to install a new Mopar power steering pump (68070908AD).

First issue. I purchased the Edelmann high pressure line (80893) in place of the Mopar (05154687AA) since it is no longer available. It does not include the banjo bolt. Does anyone have a part number for that banjo bolt?

Second issue. The new pump is interfering with a line that goes from the steering gear box to the hydro booster. See attached picture. The first leg of the hard line hits the pump body. What hose should I being using in place of the original one?

Thanks
Marty

For your second issue,

The bolt(new) on back plate pump is not a direct fit drop in for the snap ring back plate pump (OE), the line routing is different. I haven't changed to the newer style pump but maybe someone else who has can chime in on how they did it.

Best case scenario is that you can use the bolt on back plate (new) pump with later model power steering lines if they are backwards compatible.

What I need is a hose from the steering gear box to the hydro boost that has a shorter distance to the first bend to avoid hitting the new pump.

I changed pump and steering gear and mine does not touch the pump.
Later I changed the line too and got some of Amazon, again no problem.

Check your engine mounts, it is known for them to fail.
Easy test for that, can you bring your fingers through the gap between crossmember and oil pan - all good, if not the mounts are gone.

After upgrading my steering including the Mopar 6 bolt box I started having issues with pressure blowing off the cap to the pump reservoir. I couldn't find new OEM parts for the 2008-2009 upgraded pump so I found one at a salvage yard out of a low mile 2009 truck. Out of an abundance of caution I got both the pump/reservoir and the lines. I just checked and both lines going to the hydro boost have plenty of clearance. Sounds like a bad part to me.

Ok, I got back to it. I still have an interference issue. The new pump interferes with the hose (52113927AC) that goes from the steering gear to the hydro boost. Can anybody share a picture of how theirs looks? New 6-bolt Mopar steering box with Mopar pump.

Thanks.

The line in the foreground is going from the Mopar 6 bolt steering box to the cooler. The hydro boost line to the left is the one going into the steering box. That line clears the pump bracket by at least three inches. It has two 90 degree bends. The second hydro boost line on the right goes to the bottom of the pump. It clears the pump bracket by a little more than an inch. That line has a 45 degree bend followed by a 90 degree upward bend. See photo below of my original lines off my 2006 . They at least look the same if not identical to the ones off the 2009 truck.

I sure don't have that kind of clearance. Your line on your truck does look shorter to the first bend than your 2006 line on the floor. Mine measures 3". See attached pdf.

Thanks for your pictures.

I just measured mine and its 2" measuring from the bottom of the line so add the width of the line and it's a little more so that seems to be your issue. The 2006 line is 2 1/4" to the outside.

Thanks for that info. I ordered a new line.

Here’s what I had to do to run the Mopar 68070908AD power steering pump on my 2005 truck with the Mopar (68170214AB) 6-bolt steering gear box.

· Replaced high pressure line with Edelmann (80893)
· Replaced gear box line with Edelmann (80690)
· Belmetric 8091/93 (m14x1.5x26mm) banjo bolt
· Mopar pump bracket 4593998AA

I also trimmed the bracket on the pump for additional clearance. I removed about 1/8” of material.

Project complete.

Thanks,
Marty
