I am removing my vacuum pump to replace the seal. I was told that I ought to remove the power steering pump and clean the piston and screen. Does anyone have any details on how to do this. Thanks.

The PS pump comes off with the vacuum pump. To clean the screen, you need to remove the large fitting that the high pressure discharge line (the hard line) screws into.

Once you have the fitting out, a flow piston comes out followed by a spring. The filter is in the flow piston. You disassemble the screen, and out comes a smaller piston and a check ball.

Stretch the spring before reassembly and you'll get more PS power.

I changed PS fluid a while back, and checked for the screen following the thread indicated by nps. I found no screen in my pump. No need to remove the PS pump. I'd be interested in knowing how it turns out for you.

That is very odd, I have never seen one without a screen

Glad the discovery is still helping others though.
