Looking for some input on this one guys. Power steering was going south on my 92. It was forcing fluid out of the cap but it wasn't overfilled. I replaced the pump and it is doing the same thing now. I noticed when the truck is running, all the fluid disappears and then when its shut off, it all returns back to the pump. The steering seems fine, but when I looked at my 91, its not doing anything like this. I'm wondering if I may need to replace the gearbox? Any thoughts or ideas are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dustin

I recently had a similar problem. Pump pressure checked good so I replaced the box only to have it start puking fluid again after about 100 miles. I replaced the pump and no more problem. If the fluid is dropping significantly with the engine running, you have air in the system. Make sure that immediately after any PS component is replaced ot fluid is drained , you bleed the system. Best way I have found to do this is to raise the front wheels and work the steering back and forth several times without the engine running. Once the fluid level quits dropping in the resevoir, repeat with the engine running until all air bubbles are gone. It doesn't work with the wheels on the ground because the fluid will get too hot and the pump will cavitate.
