I just changed my oil. I happened to notice the side of the Fleetguard filter illustrates pre-filling prior to screwing in place.

Happy to see I was following directions for a change.....

I just filled with Delvac1 5W-40 for the first time, too. It may be expensive, but it is FAR less expensive than the Amsoil 5W-30 that was replaced. I wonder if the waste oil burner will notice a difference? hhmmm

I thought the point when going for extended drains was dropping a loaded filter and topping off with fresh to give the remaining oil a boost?

Someone mentioned using a screened filter. Maybe that isn't a bad idea if you worry about getting something in the clean side of the filter.

When I drain and re-use coolant, I always strain it. Amazing the amount of crud that comes from the system.

John, the guy I give my waste oil to who burns it in his furnace said no Amsoil or gasoline. Not sure if he meant just Amsoil or all synthetics. ATF, heavy gear and hydraulic oil are fine though. Never complains about shards of bearing races, ball bearings and other mechanical debris in it.

I pour my used Delo in my furnace tank. It seems to like used ATF too. Sure beats hauling it off to someplace for recycle.

Well, if the waste burners don't like Amsoil then what are doing running in our engines?

JJW, I bet using Amsoil caused your head gasket leak, too!.....

JEST JEST, not trying to bait.

The guy that burns my oils complains about heavy gear oil (pour point) and too much hydraulic fluid (similar to ATF) due to the ash build-up. He even takes the vegetable oils from deep fryers.

I cannot think of a good reason for banning Amsoil (and possibly other synthetics).

It doesn't burn as good due to the higher flash point. I've burned quite a bit of used oil in my rig, I recently threw in a gallon of Amsoil 5W30 and it did smoke noticeably more in the morning and even when totally warmed up it blew a bit of blue smoke under quick acceleration before spooling. Next time I will thin it down. When I burned a gallon of Delo 400 there was no increase in blue smoke at all.

you guys pouring used oil in fuel tank??

Am I reading correctly?

Are you guys pouring used engine oil in your trucks fuel tanks?

Do you strain it first? Any problems?
