Well, I have a quote in hand to get my truck painted. It's a bed-off and windshield-out job. It ain't going to be cheap. But I saw a 2001 CTD in a parking lot that looked like it had been painted the previous week. So I waited and talked to the owner. Turns out that he's getting it painted a panel at a time, and the part I was looking at was painted 8 years ago. Oh-Kay. So I visited the shop he used and was pretty impressed.

Time to get moving.

I have the headliner out right now. This seems to be the time to pre-wire the cab down to the chassis for a backup camera. I don't yet know what I will use. But I expect I'll install an oversize dual-purpose rear view mirror. But which mirror? And what kind of wire?

What have people been using? The pictures show two kinds that I have found.

The first one uses RCA type connections. The second uses four wire connections with screw-tightening ends. What kind do y'all recommend? Though at the price, I could install both I s'pose. Then Murphy's Law says that both would be wrong.

Thanks.

RCA - it's the most common from my research. Almost every aftermarket camera comes with it.
And there are still pigtails if you need to switch from one to another.

Just a year ago I put this Mirror https://www.voxxelectronics.com/gentex/auto-dimming-mirrors/?sku=ADVGEN20A into my buddies truck because he wanted temperature and compass.

Gentex, very good company. Check out what they have that fits your needs.

Here is the full lineup.

Those look good. Thank you.

Yeah, and install was a breeze, everything lines up just perfectly and it's real OEM quality.
That's why they are a little more expensive then the other stuff from east asia.

@Matt42, I'd run the 4 pin and the use adapter at the ends. That way the ends that take most of the abuse can be replaced as needed. JM2C as I've got a camera system that I've been sitting on to install in the truck. It would give me front, side and rear camera on 1 screen. Trying to figure out where to put the screen in truck! It's a 7" with the ability to go full screen with triggers for cameras. Turn signals trigger sides and reverse for rear and thinking just a switch for front. Time and location is the issue!
