Have a mechanic coming Wed. night to change out VP44 and would like to start before he gets here with some prep work. How about the intake, fuel injector lines, fuel line from the FASS,Ground wires and so on. Any other tips. Does the crank have to be in a certain position so do I leave the ground wires on the battery? Any help! DW

VP44 Removal

When i changed out my vp44 i disconnect the batteries and removed the air intake from the boost tube to the motor and then remove the throttle position sensor, big plastic cover on top of vp 44 and after that you can remove the fuel injection lines in pairs of three, do not take each line loose by itself, it will take forever to get all of the clips and holders lined back up the proper way. remove the breather bottle from the front cover of the motor and then your can spin the motor over by putting a socket on the alternator and have a mirror handy and you want to get the keyway to the top side on the of the injection pump shaft, you can hold the mirror by the breather hole in the front cover of the motor and look to see where the keyway is at, once thats accopmlished take the bolts out of the injection pump i think there is six if memory serves me right. Then use a puller on the injection pump gear to pop it loose and the pump will slide right out the back, the sealing o-ring will put up a little fight coming out and going back in with the new pump lube it up alittle before installation it will slide in alot easier. I think i hit all of the points someone else will chime in and fill in the blanks if i forgot anything. Sorry for the long post. Oo.

Thanks nfox! Install went great and your instructionsere a big help. Truck is back on the road with the blue chip fedex pump.

Kent E, the GDOA web site has a little <a href=http://gatewaydieselownersassociation.com/default.php?h_display=1&how_to=VP44>how to</a>. Take a look at it, I think it will help.
