Has anyone tried just changing the first/rear fuel filter only and the engine one every other time? anyone brave enough to try this?

Not me. I'm not going to take a chance on paying thousands to save an occasional $50.I also change both fuel filters, oil and oil filter at 7500 mile intervals. Mopar filters only.

I change both filters every 10K due the differences in diesel fuel here in the Golden State , very cheap insurance and to keep my warranty.

I'm at 132k miles......and I'll continue to change them around the 15k mileage interval, even though I'm out of warranty. I'll also use nothing but MOPAR / Fleetguard / Parker-RACOR filters.

RAM / Cummins went to great lengths to vastly improve on fuel filtration. Why would one "skimp" or "cheap out" on it......especially if one is still under warranty???

If anything......I'd consider more so changing the rear separator at 7,500 miles and then the rear separator again at 15,000 miles---along with the underhood filter.

I have to agree with Greg, we have always wanted better filtration from the factory and we got it, so why mess with something that could cost you a lot of money if warranty were needed. There is nothing needed more on these newer trucks than clean fuel.

Rclark stop by the house I'll cut you a killer deal on those front filters. So you won't want to skip changing th out

The rear filter is more of a roughing filter, and makes sure the fuel going to the front one is clean enough for its 3 micron filter not to get plugged by big stuff. Given that most fuel in the USA has particulates up to 15-19 microns, you won't know by appearance how far plugged the front filter is until it is too late and the contaminated fuel has breached the media. Thus, I have been changing both around 13,000 miles.

Kind of new at this and was wondering if the 2012 has 2 fuel filters or does this only apply to the 13 and up?

I believe this was introduced on the 13.5 truck and up when the trucks went to DEF usage.

Now you could add a second filter like I did after the primary engine filter to protect the injectors and CP3 pump. I bought the BIG LINE KIT from Glacier Diesel and I have been very pleased with this arrangement. Both filters are from FleetGuard and the engine mounted is rated at 5 Microns and the other is rated at 2 Microns.
