Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Primary power problem, Truck will not start.

Have a 2000 Dodge Ram Diesel 3500 five speed manual with 130,000 miles on the clock. Turck was running, problem started with the check guages light and audio alarm, noticed the alternator guage pegged at max, turned key off. Turned key back on to start engine, but engine would not turne over, then all instrument lights went out. Completed this procedure three times, on the fourth try turned key off then back on, engine would not turn over and have a ticking noise and no instrument panel lights. Anyone have any ideas of what the problelm maybe. DDT

Sounds like you lost power from your batteries. Check all cables and conections.

The guages are electronic and controlled by the ECM. Check the batteries and then check for codes before starting the engine.

Replaced batteries, checked and cleared codes. Truck running fine. Thanks for your help in fixing this problem. DDT
