Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Problems after fueling

I have 98. 5 Auto 3/4 ton ..... when on a trip, I stop, refuel, and then the truck runs very poorly ... Starts right away, idles fine, but has no power, smokes -- white / blue smoke when stepping on the accelerator, bucks and shakes the whole truck. I thought it might be water in the fuel, but draining some fuel out did not help. This only happens when I'm on a long trip, if I fill up when just driving in town, there are no problems.



Any ideas??????

I'll save others the trouble of having to track down the "no top end/hp" thread.



The short version is to check your fuel filter first. It's not at all uncommon to get cruddy fuel, and your truck behaving like this right after a fill up would strongly indicate this.
