Anybody had this problem yet? My navigation unit keeps stating in cannot read the disc. Problem is it has never been out of the unit. When I started getting this message I pulled it out to clean it and it was in perfect shape. So in the manual it says possible condensation, it is 82 outside and not humid I do not think condensation is the answer. Anyone else or is this a trip to the dealer?

Thanks

I get that message pretty frequently. I take it out and clean it, put it back in and it's 50/50 on reading the disc. I have noticed that this happens more frequently in the afternoon when the cab is hot/dash hot. I do not have a condensation problem either, temps are warmer here too. I even get the message regarding reading the CD's. Problem is - can't seem to get it to do it when around a dealership. One time I had it first thing in the AM, stopped at the dealership with the message displayed, tech fooled with it, started working. I got the deer in the headlights look from the tech, yes sir, you bet, I am an idiot and cannot operate the theng! I will state that I AM an idiot for purchasing the piece of junk and will never buy another simply because I cannot get them to just R&R the thing, obviously has some intermittent problem and truly IS affected by warm temps. Mine worked fine all winter, now getting the message intermittently again. I AM very dis-satisfied but I cannot get it fixed by them. I wish you GOOD LUCK with your dealer.

If it's under warranty, take it in for replacement... . read on if you want to hear my saga...

I get this error message every time I start my truck. My NAV has never worked... . I bought the unit (an REC factory piece) from e-bay. It was sold as a functioning unit, but it's anything but on the NAV. Long story short, the seller screwed me... said he'd refund my $$ but disappeared and does not answer my emails or phone calls. I had my local dealer who I know very well look at it, and they said the unit is "bad"... I called a repair center and they were familiar with the unit and said it will cost $495 (flat rate) for repair. So, bottom line, I think this is a known problem/issue with the factory REC unit. I'm not sure yet what I'll do. I paid $600 for it and don't want to have $1100 tied up in something I can do without. I may take it out and sell it on ebay as a non-functioning unit and cut my losses...

I have an 05 Jeep with the upgraded 6 cd changer and nav system the same as in the trucks... . the Jeep is 18 months old and worked perfectly..... I own several DC vehicles and would buy this option again... . really like it... .

I have the Nav in my 07 3500 and it seems to work fine but compared to the Eclipse Nav in my Ford, this factory unit leaves a lot to be desired. For anyone thinking about buying a truck with the factory unit installed, save your money and buy an aftermarket unit. I run my trucks on 200-300 miles routes through several cities everyday with no two trips being the same. After trying to use the factory unit I installed Microsoft Streets and Trips on the trucks laptop and now use it for navigation. To sum it up, it is the only disappointment my new Dodge has given me.

I had the same problem on my '06 Megacab. The dealer simply replaced the disk. Apparently, there was a batch that will suddenly stop working. The new disk fixed the problem (and was covered under warranty).

Good luck!!!

For everyone who is having this problem, I hope a new disc will fix the problem. In my case, we tried 3 different discs, one was the latest version right out of the wrapper, and I still got that same "Error Reading Disc" NAV message. To put things in perspective, my dealer said they have not seen a single failure with the factory NAV units, so mine might be an isolated case.

Thanks for the info Kevin. I will try to get my dealership to give me a new disc. They should know about this, if not, I will suggest it to them. I did question the disc once and for the most part was blown off. Maybe I'll be a little more insistent. I would just like to get it functioning.

ronman. The chances of one dealer seeing more than one failure are low. Considering how many of these units are out there, they could have a repeat or maybe not. You could have a batch put into 500 trucks that go to 500 different destinations that are all over the country, possibly the world. The real failure numbers lie in DC's stats.

Sory to hear so many problems with your nav units. I was lucky not to have one in my truck. For those who want and dont have... I purchased a Lowrance model. Big bright screen, also fish finder when I put it in my boat. I purchased an extra RAM mount. To my suprise that's what its called. I then cut a block of wood with a slot across one end. This slips into the square pocket near the 12v. outlet. The slot fits on the botom lip on this pocket. Not as good looking as a built in, but adaptable to other vehicles. Brightness is adjustable for day/night. I realy did not want the factory unit for fear of getting map updates. I figured better map availability for Magellan, Garmon, or Lowrance units.

I have recently been thinking about putting an aftermarket (Kenwood or Pioneer) radio/nav unit in my '06 2500. I had the factory non MP3 playing junk that I replaced with a single DIN JVC. Does anybody know the part number for the factory nav unit dash? I am also doing the same to my wife's '06 Charger R/T, but it was really easy to find her dash for the nav.

Well My truck was repaired today, all they did was give me an old scratched DVD from another vehicle and now my navigation works just fine. It is weird becuase my disc had no flaws and had never been touched and it stopped working. Was weird becuase it stopped working a few weeks after receiving the advertisement for the new updated disc. I know that was not the issue but one heck of a coincidence. But I am glad it works again.

My work partner was able to burn a copy of the DVD for his unit as a backup. If I remember correctly he said it took some kind of expensive blank DVD, about $6 each as I recall.

The nav system in my truck has frozen once. The only thing that fixed it was turning the truck off with the key.

Other than that, it has been perfect. I'd buy it again, although there are times when I have been able to route myself better by ignoring it--even on isolated farm roads.
