Has anybody else have problems with the shift lever on 2016/2500 It has did it a couple of times in the 16 months I have owned it. But I thought it was me not doing something, but in the last two days it is becoming a recurring problem. I did find if I shift the lever by pulling on the shaft half way down it works easy. Of course it has to act up on the week end and the dealers is 20 miles away. Anybody have any ideads or suggestions as to what can be the problem?

Is your problem that it takes a high effort to move the shift lever, throughout its travel (like between R and D), or is it merely that it won't come out of Park (but after it does come out of Park, it operates normally)?

If the latter, then are you experiencing high effort due to parking on a grade (without the parking brake), or is the Brake-Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) locking the lever in Park? If the latter, could be a bad or misadjusted brake switch, or could be the BTSI solenoid is bad.

Here is how I ALWAYS park, and I've NEVER had a problem (knock on wood). 1. Set the parking (emergency) brake. 2. Shift into neutral, from Drive (or reverse, if that's what you were doing prior to parking). 3. Release the foot brake, and ensure that the parking brake will hold the vehicle by itself. 4. Shift into Park.

This way, there is no load on the transmission Park pawl, only the parking brake. There is absolutely no resistance when shifting from Park.

No grades to speak of I do live in Mount Clemens, but that referred to somebody yelling to General Clemens "Mount Clemens" at an over night stage stop back in the day. not to any hills or mountains. Or so the story goes. I think it is the latter BTSI my buddy with the trans shop is on vacation I will be asking him what he thinks, and then either having him do something or make an appointment for the dealer. Thanks for the response
