Changed the fuel filter yesterday and noticed that the fuel was not the dark liquid I am used to. I have been running 100% cottonseed oil which is really dark colored, I noticed that the fuel was light in color alot lighter than the soybean oil I was running. Called Bobby at DFWBiodiesel and asked him what he was selling this time as B100 and he told me it was 50% soybean oil and 50% processed chicken fat. This stuff is almost the same color as RUG, nearly clear but, has a light amber tint to it. I read an article the other day where Tyson chicken was starting to sell processed chicken fat to be used as bio, they have been doing this for years according to the paper.

The exhaust still smells the same at least it does not smell like fried chicken :-laf, and it seems to flow as good as #2. The truck seems to like it, performance wise nothing has changed. I need to see what the mileage is on this stuff. Anyone else running yard bird fat?

chicken fat biodiesel

Yes, they have been making bio from chicken fat here in Ga. for about 3 yrs now. The only problems I have heard of was that it will gel up at about 45F, so you may want to do a test on what you are getting, just to see when it will gel. Take a small jar of it and put it in the frig or freezer and see how cold you have to get it before it starts to gel. This way when it does get to be winter time you will already know about when to start adding d2.

Tim,

I had a gelling issue with B100 soybased bio in Nov. . That was the first time I had that happen, I used to run B100 year round with no problems. After that time I started runnind B20 and will do it everytime in the winter from now on.
