Prodigy Brake Control Help Please!!!!

Just installed the prodigy with the plug harness. My problem is that the controller does not show the trailer connected, but everything works fine the brakes, brake lights and turn signals. I do not get the digital reading (. C) to show that the trailer is connected. I digital reader just shows (. ). When I try the manual button it shows (. NC).



NOTE: My truck did not come with the 7 pin connector from the factory. I paid the dealer to install the harness and hitch. Their is one wire from the harness that wasn't installed light blue. I questioned the dealer and they said that the wire wasn't supposed to be connected. So I tolk it to another dealer and they said it was installed right and show me the directions to prove it.

Make sure you have a good connection between the trailer and truck. I bought a new plug once and it did everything but work the brakes. I would start at the 7 pin plug or adapter if you have one.

If the light blue wire is the thickest (heaviest gauge) it most likely is the brake control feed wire front the brake control to the trailer brakes.



Prodigy controls have handy diagnositics. If it does not say . C. you have no connection.



With a test light you should be able to test the brake circut at the trailer plug (on the pickup). Have someone manually activate your trailer brakes and you should get power the the brake pin. While the trailer brake manual lever is full on, roll the gain lever from highest to lowest and you should see the test light dim.

I appreciate both your input, and will check on both your remarks. But when I hooked it up and test drove it all lights worked including brakes and turn signals. Also the brakes worked I tried it on level 6. 1 and 6. 2 level 6. 2 was to much I could feel the trailer stopping the truck. But I didn't try the manual brake I'll have to try it and also try the tests uses have recommended. Thanks for your help!

This is from memory, so take it w/ a grain of salt! When I ordered my truck, I knew I was going to do aftermarket rear bumper/hitch, so I did not get the trailer tow package. When I hooked up my Prodigy I had to run a separate wire from the Prodigy brake wire to the rear of the truck. I think that is the light blue wire. The socket under the dash did not have the brake wire, but it did have all the others. Apply the hand brake on the Prodigy unit to see if you have power to the brakes. I would do this w/ a lot of braking (heavy load long time) to make sure they didn't use the brake light wiring w/ a tie in just at the rear. You need a large wire for the brakes, I would guess at least #10. I may have used #8. You can see this wire comming out of the Prodigy unit.

PSAJB1, I worked on my controller this weekend, and had the same problem that you do, except my brakes didn't work. Raised the hood and dealership didn't install the blue wire into the harness either, and told me they don't do that as part of the hitch and wire harness installation.



So, after getting upset, they spent 1 1/2 hours, and all they did was run the blue wire in through the firewall and spliced into into the blue wire coming out of my controller. So now if I need to remove by brake controller, I have to unplug the blue connector AND disconnect (i. e. cut) the brake wire. Still haven't verified they fixed it, but I will this afternoon.



So, my new rule going forward, don't buy a truck without a factory hitch installed, the dealerships don't seem to know much about them or at least mine doesn't.



Update: Just checked it out and it seems to work. *whew*
