MSD's new Digital Propane system...

My son in law is a diesel tech at the local Cat dealer. Yesterday, one of the shop foreman's firends CTD comes in on a hook (the Cummins dealer was too booked up to look at what might be the problem. )

Symptoms were motor is siezed up. So my son in law proceeds to open the hood and see if he can diagnose a Cummins. First observation is the smell of burnt oil. On closer observation, the block is partially split at the number 5 cylinder, extending into the oil pan. Appears that the number 5 con rod broke and decided to go on a rampage.

Why did it break? - in the bed of the truck are 4 BBQ propane tanks. He asks the owner "do you tow?" - "yes". "How often do you give it a shot of propane?" - "every stop light. " :--)

Nuff said.

too much nitrous - flame out

too much propane - who knows how much damage you can make

When the time comes, I will play with N20

Just say no to drugs..... Try and get some pictures.

Talked to the son-in-law last night. They hauled the truck right back out of the shop since a Cat shop wasn't going to do a full Cummins teardown - guess the truck owner was hoping it was something easy siezing up the motor like maybe a bad serpentine belt or muffler bearing?

It'll probably end up at Rocky Mtn Cummins so I'll drop by there and see if I can get some pictures. I'd love to see them too.
