I am kind of considering a similar thing with my lady. Interesting and memorable is the key, by what I hear. I plan to get a bunch of friends and some of her family over for a party sometime, drink a couple 12 oz bottles of courage and pop the question. Of course I will have to get a ring... .

It all depends on what kind of guy you are. If you are romantic, treat her to a nice evening out (or in) and do it when you feel comfortable. If you are a "social" type (like myself), do it with your, and/or her family and friends. Definately announce it (with pictures!) on TDR so we can give you our approval and take hints!

I'm sure some of the derelicts, no'accounts, and sundry ner'dowells hereabouts have much more experience, and advice, at this sort of thing than I do but... ... I'd say don't get all hung up on some super duper proposal... . just screw up the courage, swallow hard, and when the time is right... . ASK.

Then just put up with the wedding being extra special to her -- no griping its her day, so to speak.

I know a nice bridge in Prague, Czech Republic.

Another idea was on the top of Pike's Peak.

I don't know... when I think of Maryland I think of Crabcakes. Isn't getting her out of Illinois proof enough of your love? I hearby declare you two married.

That advice will cost you $5. 00.

Sure IL sucks, but it's better than being out East with all of the liberals. I'm far enough from Chi-town, it isn't that bad out where I'm at. :-laf :-laf

You really don't have to get a ring right away. Ya, ya, tradition says to give a ring, but I'd wait till after so she can pick out the one she likes.

Other than that, I really can't give any advice. I strung mine along for ten years then just told her one day, get ready to go, we're going to Vegas in the morning.

Now there is some good advice.

Though I do like the idea of asking in front of family & friends. Scratch the liquid courage though. You might ask the wrong question.

Not that I have even the slightest experience in that stuff.

thanks i thought about that but i think it s alittle to late now. i bought the ring last night. we looked at rings about six month ago so shes not expecting this at all. im thinking about dinner at the RUTH CHRIS in annapolis then having the waitress bring it out on a empty plate the ask.

WOW, I was going to suggest the very same thing... I have seen it done and it was impressive!!

The waitress brought it out in a chapaign glass with all the other waitresses following behind. There was a small ribbon tied to the glass that said "Will You Marry Me". The entire resturant stood and clapped. Very well done!

I asked mine...

In private. That way, if she said no, there wouldn't be all my friends and family standing there to witness my humiliation.

Thankfully, she said yes. Oo.

5 years and 2 kids later, it's all good. :)

Hope it all works out for you. After my first marriage, I said NEVER AGAIN, same as my girlfriend at the time, now we've been married for 6 years and it GREAT!!

I took my girlfriend on this real nice vacation with the idea to propose to her on the beach watching the sunset. So that night we are in the hotel room and I told her to get ready so we can go take a walk on the beach and get some dinner. She said "I need a few minutes to get ready", (she is one those gals that has to dress up and do the hair and make up no matter where she is going). So I said hurry up the sun is gonna go down soon.

I went to the balcony and the sun started to set more and more. By this time I was getting pretty nervous and was pacing back and forth. By the time she got out of the bathroom the sun was all but gone. I had two options. 1, try and make the sunset which would mean going down the hall, down the elevator, through the lobby, out the back door, down the steps and onto the beach or 2, wait until the next day. Well one thing I never had was patience and after noticing she had high heels on, I knew it would take an hour to get down there. So I just decided to get down on my knee and propose to her right there in the hotel room by the bathroom. She cried, I laughed and our first kid is due in 3 weeks.

The funniest part about the whole thing is when we got back she was telling her mom about the proposol and showing off her ring and said "I can't believe he proposed to me in a hotel room. We didnt even have to leave cincinnati for that".
