Selling Property, got a few questions.

Drug smugglers stoop to new lows...

I work in the information security field, and I always worry about what my 12 year old Daughter will stumble into on the internet.

At work I use bluecoat proxy products (to keep the grownup's out of places they don't belong) and just learned they have a free home solution for content filtering

Check it out

Filters will help, but the best way to keep your kid(s) safe is to be the only one able to log on and put the computer in the same room you will be in (not kids bedroom) Check cookies, and history regularly and talk to your kids about the dangers.

I know that as a 12 year old I would have been everywhere on the internet my folks didn't want me. Just the nature of kids to be curious.

Both my wife and I have caught our 10-year-old son on sites he didn't have permission to be on - arcade sites for now but I'm sure he'll be looking at porn when the hormones hit. So our Scout den is going to have an Internet Safety class - at least 7 10-year-olds WILL know about the dangers of the Internet!

Perfect timing. Thanks Tow Pro. How do you like the K9 protection?

I just installed it. I feel better now. Thanks again.

I will be adding it as a "layer" of protection. Since I work in this field I get to bring home stuff that was pulled out of service. I have what's called a "proxy server" running at home. All outbound internet connections have to pass through this proxy server. the proxy server is running the same pro version of "surf control" that we use at work. It stops any connections to sites that meet categories that I select. (its made by the same company that makes K9 Protection). maybe tomorrow I will install k9 on the computer the daughter uses. Maybe it will catch something the proxy server don't.

One of the other advantges is it caches objects from websites that are used over and over on each screen. When you load the website the proxy pulls the information from its RAM instead of pulling it from the internet, really speeds things up :D
