AJ would you mind posting a few more pictures of the final install without the air filter plumbing ...

would really like to keep the downpipe as you stated ...

anything specific that you are trying to see ?

it would help me get an idea of what to take a picture of ?

but shouldn't be a problem. just gimme a few days to get them for you.

I'm ordering mine on friday, can't wait... That was a great write up AJ and will help me a lot. "I can't wait"; SPS 62, ATS manifold, and the ATS arch flow manifold, she should be breathing easy... . I have a feeling that a clutch will be in order here soon. Not am I only looking for more HP, but I'm hoping that my gas milage will go up, if I can keep my foot out of it.

I really like my 66, but with all the city driving I do, it can be a bit laggy/smoky. I may have to switch mine over to a 62...

just a finished photo of the install from the top ...

so i can see the rear of the turbo, beginning of the downpipe ...

had to get a new exhaust last weekend, was hoping to do turbo and exhaust at same time but didn't work out that way

like to keep my downpipe and would like a visual to see any differences

thanks

here you go, i took a bunch for you.

Its Starting to change colors after a mere 500 miles.

Hmm must mean im running it hard or something. :-laf

Looks very good, your install is very professional. You have done a good job with the trans. dip stick tube. I have been trying to catch up on my email so I will get in touch at work tomorrow. It sounds like you are liking your new turbo. We will talk. Thanks, Brady

AJ, thanks a bunch for the photo's ...

i'll mention your advertising fee to Brett when i finally do get around to ordering one ...

if you make it to indy then i'll buy you a six pack of your favorite barly pop ...

haha. the photos are no problem.

Indy, your not in WV ?

... . Cause we come out that way in the summer for the Elenboro summer bash thing.

Finally dynoed!

I finally dynoed the SPS 62 turbo today with the 3-flow (100 HP) injectors + TST PMCR (twins program)+ PDR cam combo. These were the UNCORRECTED results:

0x0 362 HP / 663 TQ

1x0 388 HP / 723 TQ

2x1 428 HP / 911 TQ

3x1 466 HP / 999 TQ

4x1 522 HP / 1061 TQ

5x1 431 HP / 872 TQ

2x2 480 HP / 1049 TQ

3x2 502 HP / 1066 TQ

4x2 539 HP / 1000 TQ

Cleary above level 5 I lost power due to the rail running dry causing poor atomization, high EGT, and tons of smoke. However, it was also interesting to note that the EGT on the dyno didn't utterly peg the gauge until I selected Level 4. :-laf . Dyno EGT were pretty tolerable up to the 460 to 480 HP level. I would suspect during real-world driving, the EGT might be higher at these same power levels due to higher engine loading. Ahhh, if I only had twins...

I also didn't test higher than Te level 2 since I pretty much knew I would lose power and drain the rail even faster due to the stronger low end fueling based on other people's posted dyno experiences.

I did have a TS MP-8 pressure box, but didn't hook it up as I felt that I wouldn't gain anything more of significance. Without it my rail pressure still pegged the max on the rail pressure gauge (26,700 psi) due to the ECM trying to feed the injectors.

The graphs of power versus time also show that as expected the SPS 62 spools faster than the SPS 66, resulting in earlier power and torque. This is much better for towing and stoplight-to-stoplight! For instance, the graphs I have collected show the SPS 62 going from 100 to 350 HP 0. 1 to 0. 2 seconds faster thans the SPS 66.

JS, Im  here, doesn't "lot's of smoke" come from lots of fuel, or lack of air? If you were running the rail dry, why was it smoking?

MMeier-

Ooops - I should have explained better! "Running the rail dry" = the CP3 can't keep up with the rail pressure (volume) demands at WOT so the pressure drops and then poor fuel atomization is the result. When this happens the EGT skyrockets. On my rail pressure gauge, this is around 13,000 psi at WOT. Other people that have hooked up DRB3 have found the same pressure range for when power starts falling off majorly, but EGT rapidly increasing.

O. K. , that makes a bit more sense the way you explained it. ( I think ) :)

missed the post AJ ...

yeah i'm in WV, about 45 minutes away From Elenboro ...

probably a case of mistaken identity, i met a guy named AJ @ indy last year with a blue third gen sport that looked like the wifes truck, he asked us about 35's on the stock suspension ... wrong AJ

but once again thanks for the photos

You are awsome in your collection of data. Very professional! Now you need a CP3 Stage 1 or 2. Thanks, Brady

Aaahh... air or fuel? That's the question! Decisions, decisions...

bigger intercooler here Monday :D

I think I am going to wait on the modded CP3 until I start seeing other people testing them out as well as posting graphs, data, blown up rail / engine pics etc. If I get one, then twins are inevitable! At least I'll have a spare, ready-to-go CP3 after you get done checking the CP3 I sent your shop last week for flows etc.

Has my parts people called you with your test results? This SPS62/80 has been a great turbo, thanks for your help. The testing on our Silver Bullet has been amazing. We are still looking for a hp ceiling and looks like it's closing in on 800hp on diesel only. This is shaping up to a very interesting year for competition all over the country. We are just glad to be helping so many people. Thanks, Brady

Some of us are glad that you deal with us too Brady. I can only imagine were it's all going to be in 6 months.
