Is this possible

my crap doesnt stink

i have psd friends and they are mostly informed. one honest guy has the 400 chip and says sotp is like 300. no dynos up here so sotp is as good as we get.

I have had interesting chats with both camps but im very diplomatic. some psd like dc get phenominal mileage. mine was great at first but time has not been kind to me at the pump. im performance minded so economy is on the backburner anyways. i love my cummins.

ive had bad luck with fords so ive owned my last one. ive found that ill informed youths prevail in the ford f series market. im still waiting to see this one kids v-10 diesel. i have a feeling i will be waiting quite awhile. things making almost 500 ponies. i dont even argue i just said thats great my dads got the v8 version and its been a pretty good truck.

its not gonna get 180k on the odometer befeore a rebuild and he is seriously disapointed but it is a strong motor. i told him about the v8s having more parts to wear out. ive owned inlines my whole life and love em.

On Sunday 5/5/02 while I was filling my Dodge a guy driving a Duramax diesel pulled in behind me so I struck up a conversation with him. He had 16,000 miles on his and hauls trailers into CA. He was very happy with his and we had a nice talk so their not all idiots. My responce to the race responce is to offer that each vehicle pull it's own weight up Mt. Hood or Cabbage Hill - that usually shuts them down. :D

Happy trails

VW owner

last week at the pumps, I struck up a conversation with a VW diesel owner. She seemed very knowledgeable about the performace upgrades available for VW and Diesel. She asked if I had heard about the biodiesel station that opened int he next town over. "yep" I replied, "but there's no way I'm paying $1. 70/gal to smell like popcorn". I was amazed that she agreed and said it was crazy to pay that much when normal diesel is availabvle for $1. 35.

Then an old Mercedes diesel pulled up we all talked for about a half hour. Longest fill up I ever had.

A couple of months ago a guy was getting gas for his mustang. He was telling me,... had a Cummins, sold it. Got a powerstroke..... put in a chip... ... 500 hp.

I didn't say a word.

I fuel up at a local station that has a couple of big rig pumps in the back two isles. When I pull up to the big rig pumps the Pford and Chebby diesel guys parked in the gas/diesel lanes waiting always smirk cause they think I'm going to find out like they did that the fuel nozzle will not fit. I fuel up quickly and pull away smiling at the confused look on their faces :p God I love my Dodge/Cummins! :D :D :D

On my last trip back from Ft. Stockton, I fueled up in Segovia, (took it in the shorts BTW). On the pump next to where I pulled up was a guy with a D-max. So, when I got under the awning, I gave the CTD a good shot of fuel (so he could hear how a real diesel sounds with a straight pipe).

The guy was actually quite nice and we discussed trucks. He had just bought his D-pad and had previously owned a PSD. I told him nicely that he should have bought a Dodge, and explained a couple of things. The main things were the whole aluminum head thing on the D-turd, and the fact that I can buy a whole set of high flow injectors for the same price of ONE PSD injector.

I find that the D-max guys are all about getting a diesel engine that does not smoke or make noise.

As for the original question, I think P. T. Barnum already answered it.

EDIT:

Champagne- Who the heck would pick a fight over the brand of truck someone drives? These guys will eventually get themselves thrashed within an inch of their lives. There is no way to tell a stranger's level of training or expertise in inflicting pain and damage. Not to mention the occasional psycho that would rather shoot people than eat ice cream.

Met a VW at the pumps once and had a nice conversation. He told me he got 50 MPG. Is this feasible? I know that they are really good though.

Yes. I talked a friend into buying a diesel. He got a Jetta. He gets 45 MPG regularly commuting on the NW Tollway in IL. And my brother was driving a diesel Bug for a while. He was getting at least 45 MPG, if not 50 or more. He complained that it just didn't seem to accelerate very well when he revved it up. I suggested he keep it under 3K (where he noticed power dropping) and in the torque range. He *really* liked the car then!

I was in the auto lane at the truck stop today (they only have one) filling off of the big nozzle when a new PSD dually shows up. He pulled in the big rig lane right next to me as I finished up. I went in and paid, came out to find his passenger and him studying the filler neck of the PSD. I chuckled to myself and walked over. His shoes and one pant leg were wet with diesel, he was trying to line up the nozzle hole with the filler hole and it got out of hand. I asked what the problem was and he told me that the nozzle was too big, he was too upset for me to laugh. I told him that the pump behind my truck had a CAR nozzle on it that would fit in his filler neck and that I was leaving so he would have room. I also told him to cut the restrictor in the neck and bend it back so he could use the big pumps. It really was kinda funny but the ol' boy was upset so I just helped him as best I could.

LSMITH, that's funny. I can picture someone doing that. Poor guy though. :(

As for VW mileage. From what I've heard, it's real good. I hate too admit it, but those liitle bugs (especially blue ones) look good to me. I'm sure they are expensive, but it would be cool to have a turbo diesel bug. For the future wife (whenever I meet her) of course.

I speak DIESEL and don't care about brand. . talk to all . . but pricks come in many sizes and colors. . [go figure]

BC many Ford owners have found out some chip burners are giving them a pile o sh-- ... . however their are some good chip burners out there and do get some good chips out. . Bryan [psycostroker of diesel-central.com fame is one of them] Cool Dude too. . Maddog [Richard] is opening a shop in Utah and I'm sure he will be burning chips and he is another guy you can trust [also a PSD guru as he was one of the first PSD guys at 600 HP now he is doing a 12 valve CTD in his Ford and it to will be a very high HP one and he is a very nice guy !!

Yah, if not for my buddies Psychostroker, and MadDog , I might still have a somewhat low opinion of the Ford boys. Not now, though. Then there's them two in Pennsylvania, Johnboy3 and PowerSnorter (Frank). Good dudes, all, great mechanics and dieselheads.

Oh by the way I had a diesel rabbit and it got 53mpg and you had to plan your passes the day before. ;) I think all brands have the gullible. Ran into a 2001CTD in Ariz and started talking hp and such and he couldn't fathom a dyno run and was just as happy as can be with the 300hp his K+N was giving him.

I have a buddy who has a 2000 PSD who used one of the microtuners on his. He can put in 80 or 60HP. When he puts the 80HP in it runs with his fathers 300HP dodge, (his fathers makes 31LBS of boost) but it wont keep up with mine. Mine makes 44LBS (I think thats close to 400HP). I think the venders of the PSD chips and tuners rate them at the flywheel and not to the ground!

If you say a PSD loses about 18% in drivetrain then let them brag about thier 400HP chip, You can tell thier only putting 330ish to the ground.

I really enjoy showing my buddy the difference :D :D

my neighbor's brother in law

that should say enough right there.

he bought a 99 while i still had my 95. of course it was faster and better than mine, then i got the 2001 and turned it up to 469HP (actually dynoed it not just added up the parts i put on :D) and well his was still better (i think he meant still stock) now i have this 97 project truck. this past weekend i was out setting the valves and timing it and guess who stops by. the neighbor and his Brother in law

first i had to defend why i was timing it and the mods i have done to date. then he starts in on what my plans of turning it into a crew cab are. after nicely telling him I wasnt making another payment on that 2001 because our car seats wont fit in the back seat. he says "I can put 3 car seats in the back of mine no problem" I just laughed, and said I have no tolerance for a highpriced truck that doesnt suit my needs and I wont put up with it because I am smart enough not to. that is why its gone and this one is here. its people like that, i enjoy poking my finger in their chest. sharp as the small end of a ball pein hammer.

what a bone head, i sold the same truck he is cramming three seats into :D
