What a tight fit! when the instructions say, 4-1/2" holesaw that's conservative! I couldn't find a 4. 5, so bought 4. 25 or 4. 125 (I don't remember, and it's somewhere on this continent, chipping someone off #ad
. Sorry!)
Wallered the hole out a bit with a borrowed (love thy neighbor!) hand-grinder and still need to make more room for that big ol' grommet that came with it.

Maybe it's one of those non-linear relationships, but looked like my down-the-road (not towing) EGT was a little higher (maybe about +50-100*F) but parking cool-down seemed faster. I wonder: is it OK to trim some of the pointy "snout" away in order to get a bigger entry diameter, or is there some hidden flow penalty? Turboscream seems a little less than Scotty plus hole, which is what I ran until this evening.
Some of you consider Scott a saint, others flame him badly. I met him Sat. am, and seems to be a "regular" guy. He's personable, and likes his trucks, and ours. He uses an 880 Psychotty himself. If it was garbage, I'd expect to see it absent under his hood. It's there. the grommet, he says, captures another 2psi of boost (probably by not allowing that cowl-pressure air to go anywhere but into the filter) (for him it was from 38 to 40psi),
Now that i've got it rasseled into place, and the clamps tight, I like it. ----rich

Yeah Rich, I had to cut the hole by hand as I couldn't nor didn't have the time to find a hole saw bit. I used a reciprocating air saw. I cleaned and fine tuned the hole with a metal cutting die grinder bit. The unit is dynamite! Kudos to Scott.

I wouldn't be without a Psychotty on my heavy hauler,no egt problems at all now, many before. Only problem has been when all the windows are up and the heater is on during high boost it creates a vacuum in the cab that makes some people's ears pop. This can be irritating especally when running over rolling hills where the the boost is cycleing high and low a lot.

I have been using Scott's system for at least 6 months or longer and I love it. It does set up a whistle, but also the throttle response is great. . #ad

I was a wimp the other nite. got the grommet in and re-fitted the whole assembly without further grinding. Still tempted to trim the "snout" down a bit. Happy with the rapid parking cooldown, and even got a small bucket and bolted it down to 2 of the 3 little bolts that used to hold the stock airbox. now I've got a little toolbox under the hood. except for my ugly little bucket-box, the underhood appearance is now a little improved. #ad
---gotta update the ol' signature, now.

illflem,

Made their ears pop. #ad
Uh-oh. I wonder whats going to happen with the HX40? Are Dentures going to start flying out of peoples mouths? "Warning, cover ears & close mouth under boost". #ad

With that HX40 it will probibly make the heater blower fan turn backwards just before your eyes pop out. Cab could also be used as a decompression chamber for divers...

Should the warning sticker go on the dashboard or the passenger window? ---I'm gradually working my way up to the realm of HP measured in "oodles" (verrry gradually #ad
)--- That would be a fun sticker for the hot rod suppliers to enclose in every Psychotty and/or HX-whatever turbo. . #ad

illflem, I have not had this happen to me on mine I wonder if your cowl duct is clogged causing it to draw too much air out of the cab.

Rick M, I have cut mine almost to the point of where it goes in the hole.

Bill, What is a bug shield? I have actually opened my cowl ducts up some right above where the Psychotty goes in because of what I was hearing as I shut down. If this bug shield restricks the air going into the cowl at all it probibly has something to do with your ear popping suction.

drawson,I may not be using the correct term, bug guard maybe, the plastic gizmo that attaches to the leading edge of the hood. I know the guard disrupts the aerodynamics of the truck, antenna and mirrors shake more. Maybe this also disrupts the air flow into the cowl at the windshield base. Try an experiment, while cruising with 15+psi boost, climate control off position, fan off, rear slider cracked, then open the climate control to any position but recirc. I guarantee you will hear/feel a rush of air coming in the slider that will vary with the amount of boost. Or maybe not if you don't have a bug shield.

It would be convenient if there was a way to get into the cowl area with a divider & let the intake have it's own chamber. We may have to cut a slot in from the engine compartment & slide in a 1/8" piece of plastic, or similar.

I've thought of useing waxed cardboard for a form on two sides then spraying expanding foam insulation inbetween to make a wall. Just wonder if doing this may create an air flow problem for the Psychotty or the cab air intake.

Bill, I tried this and I do get some air movement, but not alot. I did notice one day when the truck was covered with snow what you are discribing. I stopped cleaned the cowl area and no problem from there on.

I still wonder if the grill on the cowl opening could use some flow improvement.

drawson,oh well just throwing out some ideas,it could be that the cowl design on your '97 is different than my '95. The benefits of the Psycotty still outweigh the popping ear problem. All I have to do is open a window to relieve the vacuum anyways. Maybe I should install a barometer(another gauge!)to quantify what is going on.

I have a good buddy with a 95 and see him also every work day, I'll check his out and let you know what if any differences there are. Also did you ever install the temp sender in your intake?

drawson, all I have left to do is tap a hole in the intake, sender, gauge and switch are in place. Right now just measuring AT temp. I need to get on that,it will be interesting, thanks for the reminder.

trimmed the "snout" of the "AIR CANNON" back a couple of inches ( to the pre-grommet scratch marks #ad
) and, although it still goes to 700*F (post-turbo reading, with fueling a little limited to preserve torque converter) the cooldown is way faster, like 1/3 of the time, compared against stock airbox w/KN rectangle, and maybe 2/3 of comparative time of 880 + big hole, but w/out a Psychotty. (ran around like that for about 3 months)---- @2Krpm (70mph on speedo/77groundspeed) it runs about 4-450... @ 55 on speedo/61groundspeed, its a frigid 300 #ad
----hammered to 90on speedo(99-ish groundspeed) it goes to abt 700-750 (28psi/wastegate open) and decreases when I back off... . It's a good product, indeed,,,another #ad
clam... . now if the darn CTC lab would just send back my oil analysis result #ad
I'm already about due for fresh Delo, and haven't gotten the other back yet... . better call'em... . rm
