I've been staying out of this one because I am admittedly biased... ... . I correspond with Scotty a fair bit and consider him one of my buddies. I have only had my Scotty II for around a week or so-I moved myself to the back of the line when he was having some production issues with plastics supplier # 1. Here are my experiences to date with the Scotty II:

1. First and foremost-yes it is noisier than the stock airbox. If you don't like the sound of the turbo then cutting the cowl hole is not the setup for you. I cut it because I want all the airflow I can reasonably get. Amazing in the short time I've had it on how much my perception of the noise has lessened though-it's already become an accepted part of my truck..... but that could quite easily be just me... ...

2. Hard to get an exact # on EGT improvements as I was forced into a pyro swap the same day I installed the Scotty II  -but I am guesstimating a solid 75F drop with the Scotty II as compared to my stock airbox-for sure more than 50F. This is at cruising speed with my 8500 lb. truck-haven't hooked to the trailer yet to see what kinda difference I see but with the pyro change my #'s ain't gonna be real accurate anyways.

3. Cooldown time is greatly decreased over the stock setup-amazing to watch the pyro fall as you coast down to a stop in the yard.

4. IMO you have a way better chance of getting a good seal with the Scotty II as opposed to the stock airbox... .....

Got to agree with what Bill says-if you don't figure it's worth the money then don't buy it. Scott's got a pile of R&D time into his systems as well as more headaches than any of us know from fighting with plastics manufacturers. He's a businessman plain and simple-I don't work for free and I don't expect anyone else to either... ...

Scotty II

I'm with JHanson on this topic. I won a Scotty II at the Calgary dyno stampede. I used to use a BHAF. The Scotty II is noisier or is that music ( to my ears )? It breaths far more cool air and reduces egt's. I'm noticing at least a 100* difference while towing up hill ( appr. 19000# gcw ) Scotty and Rod are great guys!

I think the original question was what you though about the Scotty II v. s the Mega Cannon. I haven't tried the Scotty, but I did just put in the AFE. I'm very pleased with it so far. I just got back from a trip to Montana and my perfromance was outstanding. Best milage I've ever had, except for one stretch with a huge head wind. Really pulled the hills great and the turbo just sings. I ran it with the pre filter on, so I may try it with it off next time, just to compare. I bought mine from Mr. Bob's Distributiing

Years ago I came up with a system similar to the new Scotty II when I was searching for lower EGTs. I knew about the high pressure area below the windshield from past experience with off road race vehicles. I first started out with a hole in the firewall ducted to the bottom of the stock airbox. I went through many variations of intake systems until I found what I thought worked the best. It was a system very similar to the Scotty II except for the following: the whole housing was insulated to keep hot engine compartment air away from the filter, I used an exhaust blanket to further reduce hot air near the filter system. The only air the filter got was cool air from the fender hole (which also had insulated ducting) and the hole in the firewall to the high pressure area below the windshield. I fabricated my filter housing from air conditioning ducting using a T to be able to get the air from the fender well. I insulated everything with a high density aluminum coated packing. I have had this system on my truck for well over 5 years and thought nothing could beat it.

Recently I went to a Mega Cannon just to see how it would compare. I made the change because I was hoping they would have a better filter media than the K&N. At first I was just going to go with the aFe filter in my old system, but you never know if something might be better unless you try it and I was intrigued by the Mega Cannon design. The only modification I have made so far is to put insulation on the outside of the housing and I have retained my exhaust blanket and the hole in the firewall.

So far my EGTs are as good as with my old design. I am very happy with it. I have had some conversations with the folks at aFe and am currently doing some testing for them. I don't believe I am at liberty to discuss any of this yet, but as soon as I get the go ahead, I will let you know what I learned.

The bottom line on the Scotty II vs the Mega Cannon in my opinion is that they are probably very comparable. They use the same filter media so the filtration aspect should be dead equal. I believe the flow characteristics and cold air intake on each is just about a toss up. Of course this is just my opinion and if I am lucky it is worth at least 2 cents at the most.

The only thing I will have to figure out on the Mega Cannon is how to get warm air to it in the winter when I go to the mountains in Colorado. With my previous system I just put a plate over the firewall hole, pulled the exhaust blanket flap that goes over the turbo down to expose the bare turbo, and rotated my housing for the filter 180 degrees so the T opening that went to the fender well now drew hot air off the turbo. It all seemed to work pretty well.
