Hello all seeing, all knowing TDR members
I just bought a 25' travel trailer, and need to tow it home next weekend.
Does anyone have any experience with the Pullrite trailer hitch? I understand this hitch helps reduce sway. It's not cheap, so I was wondering if your guys recommend using this unit. I intend using it with the spring bars. Any help and opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Muscle,
I had never heard of a pullrite until a couple days ago and I have to say i'm still in shock after seeing one. Arar sold me his old hitch system that he used a few times before he purchased the pullrite. He stated that the conventional style was almost peaked at the tongue (900 lbs dry) which has a max of 1000lbs. The pullrite extended his buffer capacity and took care of all his problem. Not sure of its capacity.

I examined his hitch and in order to install it, you have to remove the spare tire as the system goes in in its place. It is a super heavy duty steel design built in an arc in which the tongue part pivots and is guided by the arc. This allows the tongue to move from side to side (his was 70 degrees) and tows more like a 5th wheel . Plenty of articulation and more stable. I maveled at the strength and design and would consider it if purchasing a larger travel trailer.

Hope this helps.

Steve.

I pulled a 26' trailer with a '89 Ramcharger, '84 Ford E150 Van, and '95 Suburban. If you get a good weight distributing hitch, set the load in the trailer to give you 12% to 15% of the trailer weight on the hitch, and add a simple sway control, you can get a sway free ride with much less money than the Pull-rite. If you had a BIG, HEAVY, trailer then the Pullrite might make sense because it has a heavier hitch rating than the stock class III receiver. Does your 25' have a slide? If not it probably weighs in at about 5000lbs max and should be easily handled with simple weight distributing setup.

[I had a pullright on a suburban and I loved it. My wife flipped a 25foot tt in NC. A tractor trailer passed use at about 80 mph. Causeing the trailer to sway so much that it spun the suburban compleatly around. When I got my ram I went out and bought a fiver. If you get a pullright you won't be disappointed. It is the safest hitch out there imho.

If you don't mind spending the money go with the Hensley Arrow hitch. I have one and would never tow a heavy trailer agian without one. Go to www.hensleyarrow.com The hitch does every thing it advertises.

The trailer does have a slide out, and the dry weight is 6300 appox. The tongue weight is 750 lbs. and the water tank is in the front under the bed. I plan to have this truck and trailer for a long time, and don't want the wife or I to have any problems towing. I looked into the Hensley arrow, but I can get the PullRite for just under 700. 00 (which is 1/2 off the normally quoted price).

Pullrite? Best hitch bar none. You have to see it to believe it. I have the heavy duty one (10k tounge weight, 20k trailer weight) though they make a standard one (1k + 10k). Rides just like a 5er. Puts the weight just behind the rear axle(I mean within an 1"). They have a 90deg and a 70deg(Ihave the 70deg)and the axis is the same as a 5er except it swings under the bed instead of in the bed; does not pivot on the hitch ball at all. My trailer tongue weight is 900lbs dry because of a front kitchen and "large" slide forward of the wheels. With your weight you probably just require the standard. Pullrite does not sell direct, at least not when I purchased mine, but they will sell replacement parts or accessories if you are an owner of record. Call them direct and they will give you the name of distributors. Don't be put off by prices listed on their website as the distributors sell for much less(though they are still pricey). If your a DIY kinda guy(like I am)they have excellent tech support and tips to aid in the installation. Most Camping World stores will order and install these hitches. If you need their direct #, e-mail me. Hope I've been of some help.
