When I was transporting RVs I usually ran about 62 in IL and CA and never had a problem. 55 is a very bad speed with my gearing when loaded. I can't believe they would pull over a private 1 ton pickup.
"These kinds of laws are rediculous when they are applied to private non-commercial vehicles. "
They are ridiculous AND unsafe when applied to commercial vehicles, too.
Anytime you deliberately induce a significant speed differential between vehicles, you have just disrupted the smooth flow of traffic.
The other a day a friend of ours dropped some barn tin off at our farm. He was pulling a 24' single wheel two axle trailer 14000 gvw empty back home. He got stopped by the highway patrol and wrote a ticket for no CDL. The trooper told him if he was pulling the trailer with a 3/4 ton truck instead of his dually he would not of needed a CDL.
