I want to pull just one of my injectors out this weekend to get the model number off of it so I know what I have in there. I have read several threads on the job and it doesn't seem bad at all. I am planning on using the lug nut method to pop it out.

Question is, if I am just taking one out, will there be enough wiggle room around the pressure and return lines to get it out, or will I have to loosen up the whole pressure line assembly on the pump and other 5 injectors. I know I am not supposed to try and bend the line out of the way since it is so small of a ID and could easily screw it up. Anyone tried pulling just one before?

Also, can I just re-use the copper washer or will it leak? Thanks!!

Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of the "mystery" in my sig this weekend. :D

When my injectors were installed, the steel lines between the injectors and pump came off in groups of three. If your truck is similar then you may be able to do that as an alternative. However, depending on routing you may be able to pull off just the one line. I wouldn't twist or bend the line I'd actually completely remove it. Hard to say on the washer it may or may not leak. For the cost, I think it is about $15, you can get a kit with all six copper and rubber washers so you may want to do that for peace of mind. You may also want to do a forum search I seem to recall reading that you can't tell much of anything from the numbers on your injectors (but I could be wrong).

I did some searching on injector ID and it seems I will have to take the tip off of the injector to find the numbers. Then, the numbers would most likely have to be cross-referenced by someone at a Cummins shop. Should a backyard CTD mechanic be taking injectors apart or should I leave that to the pro's?

I would like to know what I have in there so I can make other mods accordingly.

Unless you have the special tools, leave taking it apart to the pros... . the things are quite well spring loaded.

Well, crap, I guess they will just go on being a mystery until I get to the point where it really matters (bombing time).

I should have my gauges in next weekend so I will finally see some boost and EGT numbers. That may shed a little light on the subject.

I need to find a diesel shop somewhere around here that would set my pump timing to 16* for me. Maybe they could pull an injector for me while they are at it and find out what they are.

You do not have to take the injector apart to read the numbers.

You can remove just one high pressure line to remove only one injector.

The copper washer will probably seal ok, just don't turn it over.

Retorque to factory specs, don't overtorque.
