Okay, I got the truck inside the garage and I am ready to advance the timing.

I count 3 nuts on the timing cover and one the bracket on the other side.

What is the best way to get the top bolt off, that seems to be between the fuel supply line and the pump? What is the best way to get the one on bottom toward the block off?

Any other bolts that I need to undo?

How far should I move it toward the cylinder head, i. e. what "incremenet" ?

Do folks normally loosen up all the fuel lines to make the adjustment easier, or it is just with hands or a pry bar?

Sorry to hear about your troubles... . but, this thread is by far the funniest thing that I have read all week..... I bought a piezo pickup at NAPA three years ago... and couple that to the first injector line and then hook the sensor up to my timing light... chalk TDC marks... and with a little bit of quick geometry was able to figure what the degree marks should be for that circumference Harmonic Damper (searched the parts houses for degree

tape for the Harmonic balancer but, could not find one big enough). Sure... the dial gauges are great for accuracy but, they are a %#$ darn PINTA. Once set with the timing light... I can use seat of the pants feel/MPG results... it's allot easier than pulling the covers and going thru that process all the time... . call me an infidel or a blasphemer but, it works for me...

I got my truck running this evening with the timing set to 1. 65 mm.

So far, so good. The blue caustic smoke (when the timing was 2. 4 mm) is gone. Smoke isn't too bad at all, actually.

Can't wait for the test drive tomorrow.

I do have a question - I have the Cummins barring tool and forgot to remove it before bumping the starter. As soon as I heard the noise I cut it off ~ fraction of a second. Does the flywheel get damaged as bad as the barring tool?
