On a recent trip to Fla. and other points south, just out of curiosity I disconnected the pump-tap wire from the Banks Ottomind. I was running with just injectors and my DD TTPM. I found that this combination made the truck run much smoother. When I started getting back out West, I had to hook the wire back up as I needed the extra power for the mountains. I was thinking about cutting the tap wire and inserting a dash-mounted switch so I wouldn't have to manually connect and disconnect this wire. Does anyone know why this might NOT be a good idea?

I haven't tapped mine yet, but when I get the transmission stuff done and do tap it, I was planning on putting a "valet" switch under the dash for mine. I don't see any reason why it should hurt anything.

"valet"

Generic term for power-reduced mode.

If your electronic enhancement can be turned off in cab, then you don't need it. Some folks with the EZ and similar boxes are just wiring up ways to turn the box off without raising the hood. Without the timing advanced, the engine sounds "gentler".

I usually leave my box off until the thermostat opens. Helps keep me from overboosting a cold engine. ;)

I guess my real question was if there was any chance of damaging the pump by turning the switch off and on during engine operation or should the switch be operated when the key is off.

I don't know about the timing aspect, but the extra fuel is only delivered with boost. So I'm pretty comfortable changing settings or switching on/off at zero boost. Shouldn't be any different with a homeboy switch.
