I currently have my lift pump back by the fuel tank. I just ordered a pusher pump kit. Can anybody tell me if there would be a problem if I mounted both the pusher and the lift pump back by the fuel tank.

Thanks,

Dan

I don't think you need a pusher pump if your lift pump is mounted back by the fuel tank. The orginal problem is that the lift pump is not designed to suck fuel the distince required from the tank to its "factory" location. These pumps push better then they suck.

By mounting it by the tank you have removed the suction side problem.

Both pumps I have had fail were the pressure regulator valve going bad, both still pumped, but had real low pressure. Moving the pump to the back will not correct this problem.

The parts manager at Cummins last week said this new revision pump seems to be working, his lift pump sales is way down from last year!

No problems.

I put my new "pusher" pump on the frame rail and haven't noticed anything bad yet. But then again, it's new so some time is needed. Basicly, if you relocate the pump to the frame rail, you should be able to avoid some of the lift pump problems we've had. Gimme a call if you need some more advice.

I don't have the number in front of me, but it ended with 105 or something I think. Cummins will only sell the latest version of the lift pump. I checked a thread in search about "latest version lift pump" and compaired it to my number last weekend and they were the same. 3990105. I paid $167. 00 but you get 10% if you have a PowerMasters or Good Sams card with you. (which I did not, they are both expired)
