pyro gauge markings

i'm trying to make up my mind (what i have left of it) on a pyro gauge for my 97 ctd. i have narrowed it down to isspro and autometer. one of the things i notice is that the spaces between the hashmarks on the isspro gauge are quite irregular. the distances are shorter between some, longer between others. on the autometer gauge, all the hashmarks are evenly spaced.

can anyone help me understand why that is???

also, any feedback on quality, accuracy, dependability, service of the two companies that you could offer to help me make a decision would really be welcome!

When you say hash marks, I'm assuming you mean the graduation marks around the dial face? If so, I can only guess the uneveness could be due to either poor silkscreening or an attempt to follow the response curve of the pyro probe. I have the Autometer and am completely happy with it. For me, absolute accuracy and linearity are not important, it's just a relative indicator of what's happening. It let's me get a baseline for what's normal, and what's too hot.

thanks for your input. yea, i mean the graduation marks. i doubt it would be poor silk screening. otherwise surely they would have corrected it. i suspect following the curve might be true. being a visual person, i like to be able to measure the relative change by a quick glance at the needle position. it just seems that the irregular spacing would make that difficult.

Unless I switch to my other glasses, I can't read what the temp is anyway. I just memorized the numbers and determine the temp from the needle position. Getting old sucks.

amen to that! by the way, i talked earlier today to don at isspro. very nice and helpful guy. turns out that the pyro gauge picture on their website is incorrect. it does show the hashmarks as being irregular, but the gauges themselves are graduated in even increments. they will be changing the picture on their website and catalog in the near future.

Put normal high temp position at 12 O'clock and you can tell in a glance with out the numbers or marks when to let off and cool the egt. This works for all gauges too . Ron in Metro Louisville KY:-{} Thats analog gauges

... . that trick won't work on SPA's..... :-laf



That's my primary reason for not liking the SPA's - yeah they're accurate and nice, but you can't quickly glance at them to get a ballpark "Whoa! - That's hot!!" reading.



If the SPA's had the digital numeral readout of temp - along with an 'analog' LED bar graph - that would be sweet. Kinda like the old Corvette's digital dashboard... . or any digital dashboard for that matter.
