hello all... .

i have an 99 quad cab 3500 and want to add some subs. i have a q-logic 12' sub box that goes behind the front arm rest on the back floor. i also tried MTX's stealth box. that holds 2-10' woofers and fits under the rear seat. my opinion is the single 12' sounds better then my dual 10's! have any of you made costom boxes to fit 10's? i have a set of PPI flat domes and the MTX box is too small so it dosn't sound right! they are killer compition subs and i need ideas for a under the rear seat box that is ported and about 3 cubic feet... TIA... james

subs!

Just wanted to comment on your options. I use the MTX custom box w MTX's 6000A 10" w/built in matched amp. Great box agate color and all fits great also. Purchased from Crutchfields scratch and dent section. Still in box was missing manual downloaded one saved 15%. Still pricey put very happy with it. 2001. 5 Quad Cab 2500 4x4.

I'm also running the MTX box, and I love it. I would like a bit tighter bass, but it thumps plenty good for me. What kind of amp you run makes a difference too. It's not the most efficient box and takes a bit of power to get going. Short of a custom fiberglass enclosure, it's a hard box to beat for the money in my opinion.

I started out w/ a MTX Thunderform housing that I picked up second hand and put in some 10" JL Audio subs that I already had from another box. I really didn't like losing the underseat storage to the sub so I purchased a JL Audio Stealthbox that replaces the front center-console cushion.

Comparing the two, I definatly like the sound from the center-console 12" sub much more than the sound from the MTX under the rear seat. To be fair, I was using some speakers I already had and never heard the MTX box w/speakers that MTX sells with the box. Perhaps the 10" JL subs I used wern't a good match for the volume of the enclosure. I attribute the excellent sound from the 12" console to the R&D that JL put into it when they designed the enclosure around their speaker specifications, this is key w/ any sub design.

The construction of both of the boxes is excellent. The price on the MTX is quite a bit lower than the JL though. I have used the same amp for both subs, a Phoenix Gold M50, more than enough power for either sub.

I came up with a slightly different solution to the bass problem in our trucks. I originally built this box for my baby ram (dakota), which I owned right before I bought my ram. Basically the box is a cube with a speaker in the bottom section of the cube, I then built apiece of wood with stilts. The amp mounts to the wood and the wood makes the base of the whole assembly. If you can picture it, the stilts are about 4" long to create a space between the amp piece and the cube. The speaker basically fires into the amp, so to speak. The whole assembly sits in the middle of the rear seat, so you still have unobstructing seating on either side. I carpeted the whole assembly, so it fits in. The beauty of this setup is you really cant see the amp or the speaker, its all hidden; and I used quick-connects for the power and ground, so I can unhook them and take the whole box out. I have had it for years and years now and still works perfectly.

try to find a woodshop to build you a box. just give them the design and the subs and a look at your truck so that they can make it to fit. i have found out that i could have one made at 1/3 of the cost of my local stereo shops. by the way, im running two jl audio 10" w3's under the rear seat, and jl's stealtbox with a 12" w3 under the center console. ive got 600 watts going to the tens and 525 going to the 12. i am finally satisfied with the way it sounds.

Question for those who have used the JL box that fits behind the center console. Is this box easy to install and remove in case a person needs to take it out to make more room for people? I am leaning toward this box if I ever have stereo bombing money. I have a Rockford Fosgate 225. 2 amp to power it so no shortage of power.

P. S. Very nice setup there Chipstien!

I was going to say I have a set of 10's under the seat but Chipstien re-wrote the book!

I do have that a 6. 5 and 4 in the door with a tweet in the door panel and 4x6's in the quads for rear fill, the JL 10's and a Soundstream 405 pushing it from an Alpine 7940... All of this stuff is 4-7 years old:p

I have twin 10s with 500W. . plenty o' power.

Chipstien on the other hand..... my friend, my monitor jumps all over the desk just displaying your post.

MTX Thunderform....

I installed the MTX amplified Thunderform last weekend. The sound is great, not competition quality, but more than enough for me. I debated the JL center seat option, but decided I didn't want to give up the cushioned center seat. The Thunderform mounts under the rear seat out of the way. Under the seat was the best option for me. I didn't want pounding bass, and the MTX offered me great BALANCED low bass sound. I would definitely do it again. Not disappointed in the least. Got the amplified MTX for <$400 shipped to my door.
