I'm running in the dark here, Rammers.

What are the advantages to the Sport quad headlight package? Some of you are spending some serious money to get something. It sure cannot be aesthetics (looks) as I have a hard time discerning the difference between a standard and quad lighting. High beam wattage is significantly higher, but many of you commuter types don't get to run anything but low beam most of the time.

Can you separately aim the low & high beam elements?
Do the high beams sit inboard or outboard?
How much modification is needed on the various years?

Demanding ain't I?

For the most part, I think most are in this just for the looks. Had a 97, now have a 01 Sport Dually with the Quads. I have modified my High Beams so that 6 of the available 8 bulb filaments are lit. No Brite Box or anything like that!!!
The real reason they are important to me is that I soon will modify and put in HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps. Driving the back roads, it makes a heck of a difference. I already have KC HID 6" pencil spots, but want more. My HID mod will be for the low beam. With Quad headlamps, this is much easier and you won't lose high beam availability.
As far as more light with the Quads vs Standard, there is a bit more, but definitely NOT worth it on that alone. If anyone tries to tell ya that they changed over to quads because of the light output, they are lying... it has to do with looks also. #ad

I have had my HID 9007 low beams installed for several thousand miles, and all I can can say is HALOGEN SUCKS!!! #ad
I converted my regular lights to the Quads after I bought my truck, but I still wanted more light. Yeah, I know it was expensive (over $1K for Quads + HID), but it was worth it. The wiring was a breeze, 2 relays were all that was needed. One for the Quad high beams, and another for the HID. #ad

I was following Evan Beck back from Dyno Days on Saturday night (Evan has H. I. D. s in his conversion Sport headlights). To put it very mildly, he was pi$$ing off EVERY oncomining vehicle on the two lane highway as well as most he would overtake on the freeway (to either side of him). Were they aimed properly? I don't know however, I do know this... there was more than a legal amount of light being dispersed to the left side (i. e. , to approaching traffic) which seemed to match the amount of light being projected to the right. I would check the legality of the CONVERSION prior to spending the money for the H. I. D. Maybe the conversion was supposed to be used in non Sport headlights? On the plus side, when we were playing catch up to Mike and Evan on the freeway (we were several miles or so behind them at one point), we instantly saw where they were once we were on a straight stretch... Evan's Ram could EASILY be spotted by his headlights. . FROM BEHIND! #ad

Make no bones about it, those bad boys throw a tremendous amount of light. I just "Don't want to be hassled by the man. "

Hey John, I hope you are happy in your new location. #ad
I converted my '98. 5 Sport to the '99+ Sport headlights. I experienced increased lighting over my OE setup, especially when in the high beam mode. I also have PIAA Platinum Series Super White bulbs (9007 low beams/9004 high beams) along with the "special" Brite-Box that makes the conversion on '98. 5 and older Rams easier. If you own a '94 through '98. 5 Ram you will also have to remove a portion of the sheet metal adjacent to the OE headlight cutout. This was outlined (and illustrated) by Scott Dalgliesh in a past issue of the TDR.

John, the high beams are inboard of the low beams.

As for aesthetics of the Sport headlights, you will have to weigh that for yourself. I personally like the looks of the '99+ Sport headlights/turn signals MUCH better than the standard version. I don't know anyone that has seen the two (std. -vs- Sport) that like the looks and/or function of the standard lights better.

Are you running high/low beams in the high and low beam lights?

My setup is currently modified as follows:
During Low Beam operation, only low filament on outboard lights is on.
During High Beam operation, only high filament on outboard lights is on, but low and high filaments on inboard lights are on (total of 6 filaments lit).
Pretty easy, went to the auto parts store and bought 1 plug for a 9007 light. Removed the connectors inside the plug and added them to my stock harness. Patched the leads into the quad High circuit with scotchlock connectors. SIMPLE, EASY, CHEAP!!!
I have had NO problems with overheating of headlights (and I'm running HOT lights) and amperage draws are well within limits of gage of wire.

John, the lights are not DOT approved, so there is some risk involved. Yeah, they are aimed correctly, but I may tilt them down just a hair. I have run across several of Washington's Finest, and have had no problems. I have been both behind then, and had them come from the opposite direction. No problems yet. #ad
I have a couple of Seattle Police friends, and they love the lights! #ad

The light output of the HID is VERY impressive... Halogen puts out about 1000 lumens whereas the HID puts out 3200. Three times the light, but at 20 less watts, which means less heat generated.

On the road back from dyno days,I was the one in front of Evan. Put it this way... my rear and side windows are limo tinted, and his lights were pi$$in me off (and I'm in a 4wd,he's in a 2wd). With that dark of a tint,I have never had to flip up the day/night mirror until Those HID's were behind me. Every oncoming car was flashing their highbeams at us.

I noticed there is no directional pattern to the beam,it just spreads light everywhere... side to side and up and down. That's probably why the fancy expensive cars with HID's have small circular reflectors,to give it direction. They are bright, but way too intense. Sorry Ev.
