There is more to it than just technology. We could hook it up to the OBD port and report slow, unreliable data. Data that can be easily fooled and flat out wrong when used in combination with most commonly used performance products. This is why we tap the wire. It gives us flexibility to make sure you always get the correct reading.
Secondly, if we had 20 part numbers for every vehicle the cost would go up and it would be difficult for the product to be stocked and distributed. So doing it this way saves the customer money. Also, if you have it on a 2002 truck and want to move to a 2007 truck you can do so with the same exact parts you have on the 2002. No need for a new wiring harness. No need for additional hardware. Everything is crossover compatible.
Here is the Awesome news.
We have part# that will be released in the next week or so that allows you to purchase a set of plug that have a built in tap to go with your Commander. This keeps you from tapping any wire and it makes the Commander 100% plug and play. Of course you have to buy this option but, it is not all that expensive. It would just be too expensive to have 20 COmmander part numbers.
Now, each truck model will have its own plug and play kit part # so if you swap trucks you might have to buy a new plug and play kit.
Ex:
98-00 Dodge Kit
01 Dodge Kit
02 Dodge Kit
02-07 Dodge Kit
You get the idea.
This will get you a MAP sensor connection and a Coolant connection. We are debating on whether to force you to buy a rail pressure connection or not on the CR trucks.
