Bug Out

I bought the used 2000 Quad cab 4x4 knowing the auto trans is the weak link in the truck, not to mention the Lift pump and a few other things I have learned since.
Anyhow, the trans does the regular shifting 1st,2nd,3rd when i have OD off, which i usually do under 50MPH.
When i turn on the OD, if I have torque or are accelerating thru the 50MPH range( which is where mine shifts to OD ) it will shift to OD, but just as it shifts, it sounds/feels like it does not want to lock the TC, but kinda hesitates to lock for a split second. Then it locks and away i go.
Its not a "slip" in shifting, as I have had that before on other auto trans.
When I am not accelerating, but cruising easy, it jumps or lumps into OD and no burps or glitches.
I know this transmission is a "electronically controlled" etc. How or what can i do to remedy this? Or is this normal ?
I do eventually plan on buying a aftermarket a/trans, but after this on gives out.
Second question: Does the extra deep pan from Mag Hytec help, do any good or ????
Thanks for your help. Ed
