I bought the used 2000 Quad cab 4x4 knowing the auto trans is the weak link in the truck, not to mention the Lift pump and a few other things I have learned since.

Anyhow, the trans does the regular shifting 1st,2nd,3rd when i have OD off, which i usually do under 50MPH.

When i turn on the OD, if I have torque or are accelerating thru the 50MPH range( which is where mine shifts to OD ) it will shift to OD, but just as it shifts, it sounds/feels like it does not want to lock the TC, but kinda hesitates to lock for a split second. Then it locks and away i go.

Its not a "slip" in shifting, as I have had that before on other auto trans.

When I am not accelerating, but cruising easy, it jumps or lumps into OD and no burps or glitches.

I know this transmission is a "electronically controlled" etc. How or what can i do to remedy this? Or is this normal ?

I do eventually plan on buying a aftermarket a/trans, but after this on gives out.

Second question: Does the extra deep pan from Mag Hytec help, do any good or ????

Thanks for your help. Ed

Could be......

When shifting into OD it goes out of lock up shifts and then goes back in.

The transmission's on both trucks are DTT equiped so I forget what it was like having that huge lock up difference. Don't wait for the transmission to go bad, rebuild now and enjoy all the power your truck has.

My 2000 did that after the dealer applied the TSB for the delayed TCC engagement problem. Probably not a big deal.

I have the "single-deep" Mag-Hytec pan, and that combined with aftermarket TC and controller keeps my trans fluid under 125 degrees F. Sitting in traffic, in gets as hot as 180 degrees F. The fluid cools down quickly after stopping, which leads me to believe that the Mag-Hytec does a good job of heat-sinking. Besides that, it is a very well-made pan, and the drain plug and temp sender hole are nice, too.
