Question for the members and techs out there who have done this... Does anything need to be changed in the ECM or elsewhere(transmission sender) after the swap? I bought the Mega Cab in my signature used exactly as I would have ordered except for 4. 10 gears and want to have my bases covered before proceeding. Thanks as always in advance for the help!

Your speedometer and odometer will not read correctly as I'm sure you know. I think you can pay a dealer to hook up a scanner and key in the revised gear ratio. Maybe one of our dealer tech TDR members will comment on this.

All the trucks that we've owned have had the speed sensor on the rear axle and changing gears has no effect because the sprocket moves from the old set to the new set...

I own several 3500 dually's all with 4. 10's and my sons truck is the 3. 73... . he uses it 75% of the time as a driver and about 25% towing... . he easily gets better fuel economy than my dually's... If I buy another truck with a stick it will have the 3. 73" even though I tow more than he does...

Our 5500 with an auto does well, but I think if it had taller gears it would do better... . this is my thoughts on the issue... you need to do what works for you... but over the long haul, (we keep them 500K miles) we now know we'd be better off with the 3. 73's and pay attention to the load on the engine... .

Are you sure about that? I think I remember a member or members who changed ratios reporting they had to have a change made in the ECM.

Even my old '01 had the speed sensor on the rear axle but I think it was driven by a magnet on the ring gear. Changing the ring gear would change the speed input to the sensor.

If you buy a Dodge with G-56 it won't offer a 4. 10, even as an option.

Have no idea where you will get the swap done. I remember dealing with the nice folks at Standard Transmission in FTW. Quoted me $750 to change the gears in my '06... ... ... ... ... ... went with Ricksons instead.

Might be worth a call. Be sure to tell them you are a TDR member.
